Default Where can I get a tail shaft?

A buddy of mine looked into a transmission fluid leak and ended up having a cracked tail shaft. Does anyone know if I can get one of these new from the dealership, part #? Are there any other good places anyone can recommend? Thanks.

I think you mean tail housing, or extension housing. Not being a smart *** but calling around asking for the wrong part is going to be a hassle, especially when you go to pick it up.
Try a transmission hardparts supplier locally or a small non chain store type trans shop.
Remember if it's for an F-Body with a stock mounted torque arm be sure to specify that.

My language is better than my typing. Of course, I'll call Lester's Gear, B&R Salvage, and the usual gang here in tulsa.

Do you know if GM sells these, do you possibly have the part #? Do you know of or have a link to any places that sells them on the net?

Call me tomorrow Jordan. You need a solution... not just parts.

Supplying the parts is the easy part, understanding why you need the parts is entirely different.

He thinks his stock steel (******' 98's I tell ya LOL) driveshaft is out of balance. Its not to bad at normal highway speeds, but he said 130MPH + its dangerous. Plans are to buy a stock aluminum shaft and put new joints in it and have it balanced for high speed @ http://www.dtstulsa.com/ . Or have them build one for him. He needs wants an aluminum shaft either way, so if it ends up being something other than that we're not at a loss.

When I bought my transmission from Performabuilt, they provided a tail housing for a very decent price. I am not sure if they sell them outright without a transmission, but it is worth a shot.

I thought I'd update this for future reference.

We replaced the tail shaft (he bought a new GM) and replaced the steel driveshaft with a balanced aluminum peice. There is no more vibration at all now.
