Default 1-2 Shift probelm (4l60e)

I've had a 3200 Vig with trans cooler installed in my car for about 3 years already. A few months back when cleaning the car I noticed that my trans cooler lines (from the B&M cooler) were wet. Didn't think much of it since there were no drops of fluid on the ground, I just assumed it was some build-up. Cleaned everything off really good and continued to drive. A week or so later it was wet again. So I figured something had to be loose. I tightened all the lines coming off the cooler and fitting going into the stock lines. Even since its been dry.

Now comes the problem. I didn't think it leaked out much fluid and never checked the current level. After about 500 miles I started to feel my 1-2 upshift shift really slow, but kept driving. After a few more stops it kept going on so I checked the fluid and it was low a little bit more then 1/2 a quart. Bought some fluid and filled it back up to be right above the cross hatches. Problem not solved and still shifts slow from 1-2. Drove it on a small highway road to see how it drove and actually seems to get worse.

So 1-2 upshift is very slow, but everything else drives/shifts perfect. It gets worse when hotter, but back to slow when it sits all day. One question I have is would a transmission code set off a SES light? (Like a solenoid). I'm almost thinking the clutches for 1-2 probably got burnt up since the fluid was low?

Yes, if a solenoid is bad it would throw a code. Is the fluid burned or black? Coulkd be a number of probs. Maybe the 1-2 servo...

The fluid doesn't smell burnt and is still red/pink in color. *Redline trans fluid was used 3yrs back when the converter was installed.

You could pull the pan and check it out for debris in the pan

I agree, you should remove pan and inspect, maybe it just needs the filter replaced.

I would pull the pan in inspect however its possible with low fluid you had low pressure for a while and glazed/burned the band. This will cause and almost slide bump like affect on the shift

I guess I can drop the pan and check to see if there is anything in it. Won't get a chance till probably next week though, but not like it'll be driven.

Probably should have mentioned it earlier, the car only has 28,000 miles on it now and I probably installed the converter about 15,000 miles ago. So I doubt it could be filter related...
