Default Do it your self fluid exchange

A while back some one on here told me I could do a tranny fluid swap by disconnecting a line from my trans and let it run out while I pour in fresh fluid.

Does this sound like a some what of a good idea?

I got my car about a year ago and it had a flush done about 2 years before I got it(so a total of about 25K).

The fluid looks almost all pink, but has a hint of beige to it.

The reason I ask this is because I really don't want to pull the pan and I can't afford a real flush at this moment.

Or should I just wait?

i wouldn't recommend doing this... i tired and succeeded on my Taurus buts its damn near impossible to add the right amount as it coming out.. its probably not good if the level goes to high or low..

If you don't mind pulling the pan just once, you can change the fluid and replace the pan with something that has a drain plug. Once the drain plug is in place, the fluid change is as simple as an oil change.

Drop the pan and put a drain plug in it. It is still best to get it flushed to get the old fluid out of the converter and cooler.

How soon should I get all the fluid exchanged one way or another?

Ive done this probably 20 times. Take off the cooler line at the radiator and figure out which one is the outlet. Put a hose on that one and into a bucket. Get about 12 quarts of fluid ready. Start up the car and add the proper amount guaging from the amount of fluid in the bucket. Shut it off after adding about 10 quarts, then use the rest to top it off after putting the line back on.

I'd guess it's not a good idea. When I was installing my coolers, I started my car with both lines unhooked to determine which was the feed line and it pumped out much faster than I could have poured it back in. I'd think you'd risk losing too much. Just a thought though.

I thought that too.

I think I will wait untill I have some cash to get a new aluminum pan with a drain. Then I will swap the fluid out on a regular basis.

You should pull the pan and replace the filter.

On the F-body, the return line has a hose clamp connecting the hose to the hard line... you can't miss it.

the bottom line on the tranny is the out to the cooler if this helps howevr I do not recommend this type of flush if the pan gets sucked empty you will starve the pump also the cooled fluid is for the lube circuit, you will have no lube doing this
