They liked the interior of the Mustang, but preferred to drive the Camaro on track and on the street.

Ouch. If this is a sign of things to come then the Mustang is in trouble when the 6th gen Camaro comes around.
Glad I decided to keep my 2011 because so far the new Mustang has failed to impress me in both looks and performance.

I skipped posting that because I wanted to see more than 1 result 1st... to see if Randy or anyone else posted a better time after having some real time in the driver seat. Perhaps I shouldn't have, considering the lap times overall on that track and that the differences are minimal when looking at the "leader" board.
From a road course perspective, nobody has to tell Randy Pobst that driving in too fast will cost exit speed, but the whole "layover" lap times showed him braking earlier in the Camaro, dropping well below speed compared to Mustang, but SMASHING the Mustang on the exit... Idonno, but I found it suspect, if not at least strange, so I decided to wait for more results. I felt he showed a lack of confidence in the new Mustang. That stands to reason, considering the many changes in the car. Conversely, the 1LE is REALLY THAT GOOD and maybe it's simple enough to say that GM did their job with that and Ford didn't bother going to the same lengths for performance. They could've started by giving it bigger tires and while they claim to have built it to get bigger tires, they're still not using them.
That 1LE is clearly a great performer... the Mustang Randy drove this day was 1.45 seconds quicker than the 2013 Track Pack tested on the same track by the same driver. Also on this day, Randy ran .11 slower in the 1LE than he did in the 2013...
PS I should also point out that Randy holds SEVERAL lap time records on that track, so in general, he's not exactly searching for his next decision. I hadn't thought of that when I decided to hold off on that news... my mistake, to be sure. The 1LE remains my personal favorite Camaro(post 2002) and is a better performer than most at any price. The ONLY way I see Randy doing better in the Mustang he tested is if it were a base model aside from the Track Pack(is that what they call it now?). Ford should WAKE UP and use bigger tires, if not changing anything else.

The Mustang is going to need more than just larger tires to hang with the 1LE on a road course. If you watch the video, you'll observe how much body roll the Mustang has and how it just appears loose. I'd say at minimum they will have to refine their track pack and install stiffer springs and shocks/struts along with larger tires.

As it went, the 1LE is the better handling car, but it's worth noting, the standard SS has no shot either. I don't think the track package is very helpful on the Mustang and even less so w/o those good seats. Sure, they say the standard seats are fine, but I'm certain the Recaro's are much better for road racing. Anything that inspires driver confidence, particularly with a pro driver, is going to help "shorten the track" as it were.
We should also wait till Randy tests a GT with the track package(it had) and not all the additional stuff which adds weight, not that it's a big difference. What may make a big difference from what we saw is, driver confidence... and Recaro seats could help that. Why Ford sent an everyday driver, KNOWING the car was going to be raced, nobody may ever know.
I think seat time played the biggest single role in that test and larger, more track oriented tires would, along with the same seat time... and the same seats, would put this new Mustang right behind the 1LE.

Which were excuses.......and he was wrong. That was a track pak car and not just a gt. Randy did end up driving them. 5gen rolled up the new stang. Both were comparably optioned also......which he also cried about.
