I test drove one yesterday...A6 version. Must admit, I was very impressed. I don't know what I expected, but was very surprised. Nice ride, very comfortable, plenty fast for a stock car. I could daily drive one and would take this over a camaro or challenger all day long.

I saw that they broke 12,000 units... not including exports and that's a HUGE deal!
The V6 isn't as nice as the other 2, by the way. It's not about the power either, but the 2.3L and GT each have added driving modes which many have said make the car even better.

Mustang is definitely better looking than the current 5th gen v2 Camaro, so I can understand the buyer interest there. I haven't driven the latest Mustang, so I have no opinion on how the experience compares to the others mentioned. I will say that the new Mustang (V8 version) is one of the few new cars that I would actually be excited about taking for a test drive, but really I can't see myself buying one at this point.
I'm hopeful that Gen 6 Camaro will correct some of the styling flaws of Gen 5, especially the late Gen 5s.

It's funny that you say that because the rear is my favorite part

I second the comments about it looking better in person. I also thought Ford dropped the ball on styling the rear but in person it actually looks really, really good.
One of the other things that you don't notice in the photos is how aggressive the lines are in the sheet metal, especially on the sides of the hood and front/top of the door. The grooves are really deep and aggressive. Pretty cool.

I thought the mustang looked pretty lame in pictures. But when I saw one in person and sat in it I was very impressed. Definitely a step-up in terms of fit and finish compared to the last generation.

This is the first Mustang redo I've liked since 2005. The car just looks aggressive - like it simply MUST be faster than my old f-body.
With due consideration to the fact that it was just refreshed, and the Camaro is outgoing, it's still amazing to see that the Challenger outsold it last month. The new interior really had to help the Challenger. The original dash layout on that car was hideous; I went to check it out when it came out, got behind the wheel, and got out - "test drive" over.
GM better get the 6th gen right. If it goes in the direction of the 2014 redesign, Mustang is going to dominate for a long time. It'll be the 80's & 90's all over again.

5th gen Camaro wasn't as impressive to me as the 2010+ Mustang, but the refreshed 5th gen Camaros made me appreciate how much better the earlier 5th gen styling had been. GM really missed the mark on that update, unlike the S197 Mustang which just kept getting better with each refresh.

In my opinion, the best thing about the 5th Gen was the engineering behind it. For being as heavy as they are, GM engineers got them to put out performance numbers that are so good they border on unbelievable. The 1LE would be in my garage right now if I could tolerate the interior more (for the record, the interior is better than my 4th Gen, but I still don't like it).
I envision a 6th Gen that is lighter (already confirmed) and faster (confirmed LT1 motor) with a completely redesigned interior inside of an "evolutionary" body. I don't expect a radical departure in outside appearance from the 5th Gen.

My $0.02. Having seen the new 5.0s in person, I will say that I am still not fond of the front. Call it whatever you want, but I prefer the previous model front end. That said, the rest of the angles look really good to me.
Guess we will see what the 6th gen actually looks like in a month.

A radical departure probably isn't necessary to get things back on track, they just need to reverse the update treatments of the late 5th gens and then move forward from there in a better direction with the exterior revisions.

The front is too rounded and plump looking...like it has down syndrome.
The sides are just bland.
The rear is a ******* monstrosity of ugly that rivals a Pontiac Aztec or Nissan Juke for ugly.
The other day I saw a convertible version with the top down...looked more like an Eclipse than a Mustang. An uglier Eclipse.
