Default V1 recall for passenger airbag

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/23/c...en-cts-sedans/

FYI, if you hadn't seen it. Sounds like the passenger seat sensor can fail to detect a passenger. I guess you could check for this by looking at the rear-view-mirror status display until the recall is done.

When I'm driving along sometime I see that light on the rear-view-mirror status display flash off and on.

Weird I just noticed the other day that I thought I saw the rear-view-mirror status flash. It was the first time I noticed it.

It's not just the auto-brightness thing, is it? Sometimes the rearview mirror thing grabs my attention, but I believe it's just it getting bright or dim when the car decides it is, or is no longer, "night".

I have to say, the CTS seems much stupider about what is night-time than any of our other GM cars with auto headlights.

Thanks for the info and I think mine is bad, as I get that 'service airbag' message everytime I start the car (PITA) and it does not detect anybody sitting there anymore...It did work up until recently though and I have noticed the 'off' being illuminated no matter what and of course this is independent of it being brighter or dimmer depending on the 'night' sensor.

One thing that was interesting is once I removed my sunroof relay, I got this message all the time, so perhaps it was coincidence. Just hoping I can fix my sunroof real soon (to have it work again), and we'll see if it works or not.

Thanks for the link. I read this post yesterday, & sure enough it started acting up last night on the way home from a Christmas party. What are the chances of that.

Thank god, I have had that light since I bought the car, but haven't had the money to fix it.

If it's anything like the brake line hose, the V won't be included.

^^^I am not familiar with that, but I would think the parts of the airbag (ie sensor) would be the same across the models, so hopefully the V will be included (fwiw, anybody have production #'s for all CTS' 05-07? Would think much more than 95k)...The brakes, however, and many of their components differ between the two (reg and V), so I could maybe see why the V would not be affected or visa versa there. However, without know details, that's only a guess...

Suppose we'll have to wait and see, but taking the car to the dealer is always fail

As of now, they are recalling based on model year. No announcement of when the parts will be available.

The whole car should be recalled.

So I waited and waited for a call back, nothing. Called them this morning and spoke to a service advisor who said there was no recall on my vin for the airbag. There is one for the PCM or something. I leave a message for the manager, whom I've had great dealings with in the past.

In the meantime I call the 866 number to GM and speak to someone who handles the recalls. They also told me there was no airbag recall for my VIN but that they could perform a diagnostic at the dealership, and if it is the same problem, they will cover it. Got an appointment scheduled for Friday. If they diagnose it as non-recall related, I am supposed to pay for the diagnostic.

In the meantime, the Manager called me back and said that GM hasn't issued #s for the recalled vehicles yet, but that it had been leaked to the press. I let him know that I had an appointment to get it diagnosed, and that I would stay in contact with him about this situation.

So really, no news.
