Stone how do you like the m1000? Just picked one up myself. Trying to decide on which sub. Going to mount it in spare tire compartment. Thinking alpine type r shallow.

I bought a Kicker Comp 10", but the basket won't fit in the stock location. Any one have any suggestions on the easiest method to enlarge the hole?
I had a stereo shop cut me some 1/2" mdf in the shape of the plastic tray. Also, had holes drilled so I could use the 4 posts to mount the mdf. Using some dynamat stuff sound the hole & a cut up really large mouse pad for a rubber gasket between the mdf & metal.
Just need that hole cut . . .

I had to remove about 1/4" of ID to get my sub to fit.

This is my set up...JL 12" and a 250 JL watt amp with a remote control ****. i like the bose sound and this just added the little extra bass that it needed without have to to spend the extra cash for redoing the whole system. this cost me about $500 install at the one of the only car audio place in my city (we only have 3 or 4).

I ran an oscillator through the whole audio band and found pretty much every loose and vibrating thing in the car.
I don't remember any plastic tray for the sub, but it has been awhile.

back form the dead.
Question.
heavymetals:
is that an open air sub? or did you just mount any sub there with no box? if so how'd it hold up with no back pressure?
I'm very interested in upgrading my Vs sound.
I want to keep my stock head unit and add a low, mids and hight amp.
what is the prefered method of getting RCA links out of our Stock head units.
I have an 05 CTS-v with Navigation BTW.
thanks to any answers.
BTW i'll also be looking at building a box and mounting it the underside of my deck.
Question.

I put a Kicker Comp 10" in the stock location & used a LOC with a cheap Kicker amp I got a good price for (priced as the single channel, but it's a double channel! Thanks BestBuy!). I regularly carry all my band equipment in my trunk:
- 6U ATA case
- foot pedal case
- gear bag
- (2) Les Pauls
. . . and still have a lil room left over for some small stuff. I wouldn't give up my trunk space for nothing!
Don't forget the dynamat!

The stock sub does mount to a plastic tray that is also the XM unit's bracket. I cut the sub portion off and left the rest for the XM unit. It took a good bit of dampening to remove vibrations from the remaining plastic bracket, but what did the trick was stuffing a ball of paper underneath the tray to effectively shim it snugly. With the plastic removed from the sub opening you can make your own baffle and slip it over the original mounting studs. I had to use a planar on my 3/4" MDF baffle at the corners to be able to use the studs.
