Default Roof rack on the V???

The CTS-V has plugged mount points at all four doors for a rack mount, but Yakima and Thule do not have mount kits.

Can anyone offer help here? I would like to use my existing Yakima rack on my CTS-V.

thanks.

I did a lot of reasearch of that. Are you looking at it for luggage or bikes? If bikes just get the Saris Bones trunk rack. It is actually really good, if the paint is clean before you put it on there will be no problems.

Makes sense to me. There's nothing unique about the roof of the V.

Bikes. In the area I live the trunk mount would rapidly mess up the paint due to all the dust around.

Good find. Looks like a good option for someone wanting to buy a complete system. It gives me hope that I can just adapt my Yakima with some new custom tower adapter plates.

Okay guys, wanted to try and bring this thread back into light because I'm kind of curious about a roof rack on a v1.

So there's some pictures with v2's with racks and they look pretty decent.

I haven't been able to find any v1 fit rack's but there is a rack made by www.whispbar.com for the v2. Do you think there is any difference in dimensions on the roofs?

Here's a guy with the rack on his v6 cts

On a bike forum he said he had it "custom made".

Just looking for anyone that has done this and/or opinions about it.

PS, here is some v2's with some racks for your viewing pleasure.

pretty sure the wagon rails on top have the mounting anchor points underneath the flashing pieces along the roof line.

I've seen a regular 1st gen CTS with a roof rack before. They're out there, but they may be more along the universal fit type.

I was thinking they would be universal types.

I used to have a truck and just put my bike in there but now need something else.

I may try and get something once summer comes around again.

Did some searching on cadillacforums.com, including in the V6 forum. Not a ton of information, but here's one thread showing a V with a Rhino rack (looks like it's a universal design).

Another member (RobinC) did a permanent install with Yakima mounts. Description is at the end of the thread linked below, and some pics of his car are here.

I just merged a bunch of threads into one here. Nothing terribly conclusive - apparently there was a GM Accessories rack, but it was discontinued long ago, and was only for early models. One guy posted some pics of a mounting point at the top of the door jamb (which I guess is what the GM rack mounted to), and some folks said that only early CTSs ('03-04) had those. Can't say I've ever seen that, so maybe it was a Euro model thing? (The guy that posted the pics was in Europe.) Last post in this thread is from a guy with an '04 who said he mounted the GM kit using pre-drilled holes in the door jambs, so I guess at least some '04s had those holes.

Subscribed...Would like to take the yak down to the keys..

Didn't the 03/04 base and 04V come with the holes for them already? The 03 I parted out had them but my 06 base I had and the 07 V doesn't.

EDIT: Didn't see your post before AAIIIC...Since my 03 was a US car I'd assume it was either an option, or atleast all 03/04 had them.

When I was a kid and worked in a bike shop, I sold and installed countless Yakima roof racks. The style at the time was a set of crossbars, four feet with rubber pads, and a set of mounting clips specific to the make, model, and year of the car. The clips attached to the sides of the crossbar mounting feet and were bent specifically for that vehicle so the would slip between the door frame and door jamb. They actually grabbed onto the jamb/rail pulling the mounting foot down, and the set of clips together also worked in tandem to cause compression between the sides.

I don't know what's changed in roof rack technology over the last 25yrs, but that stuff worked just fine and fit nearly all of the cars out there.
