Shifter slop question
So my new to me V had a UUC shifter installed by the previous owner @ Lindasy Cadillac about a year ago. However, it seems this thing has a ton of side to side play when in gear, and it actually smacks the console when I push it over to reverse. The repair order he gave me with it lists the shifter and bushings I think, is it possible they're shot again this quickly? Somehow this seems like too much play for a short throw shifter. Thanks for any help.

After putzing around with my shifter a crapload this weekend, I can say there isn't much you can guess about. Just open it up and look. Fortunately you can just look at it without removing much.
Pull the **** and boot off, get the foam out of the way, then remove the plastic plate that holds the shifter assembly up. Once that is out of the way, you can see the bushings, the shifter, and you can feel the linkage. See where the slack seems to be.

The "more" linkage you have between the shifter and the transmission input rod, the more play you're gonna have..
That being said.. The linkage system of the V is... Rube Goldbergian to say the least...

Tell me this then, since this is my numero uno experience with these cars...does pushing it over so far for reverse that the shifter hits the console sound excessive? If it's normal, then so be it, but it seemed odd to me...
