Changing Motor Mounts with Kooks headers installed? Who has done it? What to expect?
My original 29k mile 04 OEM motor mounts are done. Motor has sagged some and the header now rubs the steering shaft while turning sometimes.
Have read all about mounts and whatnot, but have a couple questions still....
I have read both that they can or can't be done without removing the headers. Which is it?
I haven't seen anything mentioning doing the mounts with Kooks headers installed, only Pacesetters.
Are the UMI type mounts easer to install than the Revshift/Creative steel with headers in place if possible?
I'd rather not pull the headers, but will if absolutely necessary.
Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Car is a daily driver.
Thanks.

I followed the two part YouTube video for the install (RevShift blues). Did it without removing the headers, and was surprised by how easy it was. My passenger side was completely destroyed.
Will post the link to the video once I find it again.

Same with me I watched the video and did it with the oem manifolds installed, didn't take off anything. I lowered the cross member and it wasn't to bad. Lowering the front cross member/frame what ever you call it is key

I thought I read something the other day about a guy who did it, but had to remove the old mount from the upper mounting plate before it would come out due to the LT's in the way. It is much different than stock clearance with the LT's.
I have removed my long tubes from my C5 about 15 times due to motor/clutches/drivetrain work... I will if necessary on the V, but if it isn't necessary it is a definite plus.
BTW. Thanks for the video links, it doesn't have headers, but gives me an idea of how the mounts bolt in and come out.

are you guys lowering the front cross member like in the video? Even with headers vs oem manifolds I don't see how you would have to remove the header. You lower the cross member and then you can take the mount apart to drop it out. You don't "manual around them" there is space with the cross member lowered.
I would suggest watching the video and I think in my ls7 revshift thread I have more information in there

I changed both motor mounts to the Revshift Blues without removing my Pacesetter headers. It made things a bit trickier and a little more time consuming, but definitely doable. I didn't have the option of removing the headers because the idiot that owned the car before me welded the collectors to the x pipe.
I'll dig up some pictures and post them when I find them.
Also, I did have to unbolt the driver side header from the head to get a little extra room to pull the mount out.

Kooks are so easy to remove/install I would take the extra 15 minutes and at least loosen them up to make the motor mount install/removal so much easier. Maybe not pull them out of the car but pull the bolts and support it higher than normal with a zip tie.

I asked this question a year ago and FuzzyLogic said you have to remove one side and not the other, and Lolly said just the opposite (i.e. one said driver one said passenger). So maybe if we put their skills together you don't have to remove either. lol... I'll find out soon enough myself... I do have kooks
