Replacing Leaky Power Steering Pressure Hose
Question: instead of replacing a leaking power steering pressure hose with the U-shaped soft and hard line OEM piece that goes under the car, why couldn't you put one fitting in the rack and one in the power steering pump and run a braided pressure hose with -06 female fittings on both ends between the two?

where I'm headed: I could just replace the pressure line with an OEM one and be done with it or... I have a Turn One pump for a LS1 that looks like it will fit (with a bracket) if I can get around the fact that it has the connection on the inside rather than the bottom of the pump like factory. If I put a fitting on it and the rack, I can run a -6 line with a 90 degree end on it and I think it'll work out... It's about 1/2 the cost of the KRC option...
I think the fittings are like $15 ea

The bends and excess line are there for a reason, mostly to address noise/groan complaints and to mitigate momentary loss of power assist under high load conditions.
You can replace just the rubber lines by removing the OE metal crimp sleeves with a cut off tool. Install new rubber hose or braided steel hose and double or triple clamp it. This works on trans cooler lines too where the metal line turns to rubber.
