Another recall PSA - front brake lines
Why all of a sudden does it seem like someone's paying so much attention to V1 issues now? Wonder if a an exec. picked one up for their snot-nosed kid and has come to the realization that there really are some serious issues with these things...
Caught wind of this on the FB page, so checked GM's recall site with my VIN and sure enough, it's there. Looks like she'll be back in the shop after just getting the fuel pump done a week ago.
It's all well and good that they've released this, but why the hell not include the rear lines that are also well known to do exactly what they're describing here?!

Those who did will get reimbursed, I'd imagine. But only for the front, because in their infinite wisdom, GM decided that the front lines are a risk but the rear lines aren't. Aren't they made out of the same materials and exposed to the same conditions?? Frustrating.

So my V was originally sold in MI. I have stainless steel brake lines now, but no receipt... Can anyone comment to whether i stand a chance at getting re-reimbursed?
I assume they will politely tell me to **** off if i don't have a receipt. I also wonder if the dealer can still supply me with a free set of brake lines . Technically speaking my car is qualified!

Heck yeah! This is the first good news I have had about owning a car from up north. My lines are definitely suffering from this issue. So the question is this, do I now go out and buy the Goodridge lines and replace them ahead of the recall so that I can be reimbursed?

You guys are funny. Of course GM will offer reimbursements to those who replaced these parts prior to the recall issuance; but they're not going to reimburse you any more cash than the cost of the replacement that they're providing in the recall (wont likely be stainless). I'm not sure what they do in this case, but I'm sure there's a maximum reimbursement amount. From what I see on RockAuto, the 2 sections of front lines that are subject of the recall are only worth about $25 each, so this isn't a matter of hundreds that they "owe" any of us. My biggest beef is that they've targeted the front lines, but not the rear. WTF is up with that. Same materials, exposed to the same elements, and well known to have the same issues.

I've read lots of anecdotes around the forums over the years where people have described rotting issues with the rear lines... Maybe in a different area? I know there's a "block" of metal brake lines between the rear wheels (midline of the car) where mine look a bit corroded and junky from the elements/road salt, etc. It's not leaking by any means, but doesn't look like new, that's for sure.
