Default Moving to Calgary from Richmond, Virginia

It looks like I'm about to make a big move to Calgary. I've got a fairly modified vehicle and would like to know if I will have any issues? Is there any kind of testing? Any F-Body activity in Calgary?
Thanks!

Lots of Fbody guys in Alberta.

Just a little ways from Calgary is a town (Lethbridge) who host a great car show in the 1st-2nd weekend each July called Street Wheelers. Best i've ever been to.

There is a ton of car activity in Calgary, and you are at the gates to the Rockies which i equate to Canada's Autobahn. Beautiful roads and you are able to cruise at some high speeds (with a radar detector of course).

Best of luck with the move....i'm jealous!

There's no emissions testing but you will need an out of country inspection if you're staying long enough to have to register it here. It's more of a safety inspection but can be a pain.

Thanks for the responses! My car is very safe but does rumble from the back and whistle from the front. What about legal drag racing?

Pretty sure Calgary has a track , if not Edmonton does. Safeties really aren't a big deal to get through.

Hey bro, sorry I never check this section! Welcome to Calgary. Hope you're liking the city so far. You ever want to hang out and grab a beer let me know. As for a track, ours is closed but Edmonton isn't that far...

Missed this thread. Welcome to AB. I'm more in the North-East side of the province, but sometimes am in Calgary for work.

Hope you get your car through inspection easily and get it up to Castrol in Edmonton

I just spent my first 10 days in Calgary. Very nice place. The air is noticeably thinner. I'm wondering how much power I will be losing. Richmond is at 170' and Calgary is close to 3500'!

Thanks for all of the replies!

Welcome to Calgary! You should come out to one of the friday/saturday nights at the tim hortons on barlow & 61st. There is usually at least a few LS powered vehicles there including f bodies. Starts at around 9 PM.

I believe that you lose around 4% power for every 1000 feet above sea level. So around 14% loss for you..this is why most people don't mess around will all motor mods here. They go straight to turbo, supercharger or nitrous. I know I felt a very noticeable difference when I took my car back to Vancouver (sea level) 3rd gear rubber!

14%! I think it's time for a new pulley. That's 80 RWHP! This was certainly not in the brochure. I'll check out the car meet for sure. My car will only follow me next year.

Love the snow!

FI setups do not lose the same 4% as NA builds.

^True..I believe that the turbo has to work a little harder but you don't get the same loss.

Welcome to AB.
There is also a new track in Rimbey called Central Alberta Raceway. Its not quite all the way to Edmonton. Its only an 1/8th mile I think still and they dont have a lot of events there yet.

The LS platform is finally starting to really pick up in AB. Whenever I go to MOPAC its still dominated by oldschool stuff, but the LS is coming on.

If you need some work done, Davenport in Calgary I think is a decent place. And Horsepower Solutions in Edmonton does some really good tuning.
