Won't Idle

Won't Idle
Hey guys, I know this is an LS forum but I figured someone might know of something. I just got a 76 Camaro with a 383 Stroker in her. she is a monster. When I test drove the car everything was fine and she ran like a top. But as soon as I shook hands with the guy and drove away the car wanted to cut off at idle. It wouldn't even try to idle. I figured I could deal with it until I got home but it would cut off every time it stopped if I didn't keep the RPM's up. I pulled in a gas station to get gas and she wouldn't start back up...
All it would do was turn over and it didn't seem like it even wanted to fire up. It wasn't flooded, it was getting fuel and spark. Even sprayed Ether in it and it wouldn't do anything. I ended up getting a hotel and the next morning I went out to start it and it seemed like it wanted to fire up but the battery was dying. So I ended up towing it back home, and charged the battery and she will start up by giving her a little gas. But again, it won't idle at all. I checked all of the vacuum hoses and they seem fine. Could the timing be off? Just wanted your input. Thanks guys.

Try pulling off the carb and check for debris in the bowls/idle passages. Clean or replace the fuel filter. Go through the ignition system checking points, cap, wires and plugs. Make sure you are getting a full 12 v when cranking. Pull a plug wire and see if the spark jumps a full half inch or more. If you can get it started check the timing and operation of the vacuum advance. Then check for vac leaks by spraying your ether at any likely leak points.
If it wouldn't start with ether then leads me to think ignition, but new car can't hurt to do all those other things.

So I adjusted the idle screw and got her to idle fine. I took it for a drive and parked it four about half hour and then went to run up the road and it wouldn't start. It just turned over..

Is it flooding? If it does this and you instantly hold it to the floor and it tries to start or does but the won't idle that's usually float as stuck.
Another way is to turn the fuel pump on and look in the carb, if the boosters are leaking fuel that is a stuck float.
It happens, especially with today's fuel.

I don't think it's a stuck float. I held it down. Used have throttle. Feathered. And no throttle. It doesn't want to start. Could it be the msd ignition? That's all I can think of.

It is getting spark. Once it is running it runs like a top. Has both a mechanical and electric fuel pump. Has the quickfuel system. I am not 100% sure of the ignition system. I do know it has the MSD box though.
