Default New guys got some questions

right now i have a 5.3L out of a truck with 862 heads
plan on getting carb setup and t56 and putting into my 92 camaro

i plan on keeping heads and doing all work myself in my apartment lol

what i want from car, 350ish hp, dont plan on revving past 6k and daily driven, not ur usual camaro

questions:
ive done some research on intake manifold and found a couple in my price range but wanted to know if you guys had any preferances? (rpm performer and victor jr are 2 i like)

springs, ive been told that ls7 springs are a perfect swap for someone on a budget build, true?

cams, z06 for something better than stock but not crazy, true? will i need to change push rods if swap this?

I always see cool valve covers on pics (i know valve covers dont add performance but i like the look) got a place to find nice ones?

Call Mike at SK speed, best prices you will find and he is a sponsor here.

The performer RPM is king for off idle to 6500 RPM unless you have a stalled auto and 4000 converter.

Cam, your 5.3 will make 350 HP with the stock cam, carbed intake and headers, so anything larger is more power. I run some 105$ spring kits from Alex parts, no one else sells anything that cheap that's good for .590 lift for small cams.

The edelbrocl 2215 is a good cam if you want a but more power and noise. A z06 cam will not make any power down low, and will pull to 6600 RPM with good springs, but so will the edelbrock 2215, but will have plenty of low end power as well.

So, leave the cam alone of your goal is 350 flywheel HP.

Next question, ive been told its good preventative maintenance to go ahead and replace the springs now. If I keep the stock cam must I use stock springs or can I use ls6 springs?

You can use whatever, LS6 springs are a good upgrade for a stock cam.

Thanks for answers! Last question tho. Id prefer to use mid length headers as fitting long tubes in a 3rd gen isn't the easiest. I can only find find shorties tho. Got a good brand/place?

Well, there are some mid length headers:

499$

The shorty headers, if your not looking to make the max power, the 99-02 shorty headers fit fantastic.

Getting ready to order my springs and I keep finding that you must fill the cylinder with air. Only problem is I don't have an air compressor that works. Ive heard u can just but the motor at TDC for each cylinder and be ok. True for ls?

Last thing you want is the valve to drop and the pressure will leak down, just depends on mileage/wear and how fast. Rent one if you have to

For what you want to do, the advice above is as good as you will get. Be prepared to be shocked as to how strong it is when you are done. The only place where my advice will differ is on the valve springs. I am a stickler for good valve springs. I recommend the PAC 1218s for your build.
