Clean Throttle body on '99 Z/28
I figure this may be simple, but I wanted to put this out there to the forum and see what you guys think. The dealership wanted to charge me $100 bucks to clean my throttle body, but I heard all I would need is a toothbrush and some throttle body cleaner. Can anyone give me some specifics on how to clean the throttle body?

$100.00!!! Maybe they take it all apart and completely dip it or something. They wanted $1000.00 to put a new steering box on my brothers 04 Z71 and allignment. That's a dealship for ya though. I'd do like you said, tooth brush and throttle body cleaner. Or take the TPS sensor and stuff off of it and acid brighten it and scrub it with a brush.

So based on what you are saying, I would need to totally remove the TB from the car and clean it, not wipe it down while it is connected? If that is the case, I'll need to replace the TB gasket while I am there, right? I looked and it looks like there are three bolts in the TB to the intake. Just want to be sure on what you are recommending.

Yah...kinda. The coolant lines run through the bottom of the throttle body (2) lines on either side. You'll see them once you get the bellows outta the way. Don't forget the tps sensor which is at the top on the side of the TB. The one you have marked coolant line is a vaccum line, which will need to be pulled to pull the throttle body. I don't think you will need a new gasket, but if it has a lot of miles IMO it's a good idea to replace it while your're there.
