(1st Camaro build) 99 Hugger orange Z28 LS6 build
I am starting my first camaro build on aa 1999 hugger orange Z28. The car was all stock until now, other than boyd coddington wheels.
The problem started about a year ago with the alternator going out. The stupid power steering pump was leaking on it, I have always thought it was because of the power steering cooler(I am getting rid of the junky factory cooler).
The next problem was it has a very high idle when it gets cold outside I assume it is because the PVC system has a leak somewhere.
It also sounds like it has an exhaust leak but the local exhaust shop and I can't find one anywhere, so I am beginning to think it was a intake or head gasket leak. It was using quite a bit of antifreeze and was running kinda rough.
So when the power steering pump blew apart and pulled the threads out of the p.s. mount I thought it was time to fix these issues.
I called a local performance shop called Hinson performance and I talked to the LS guru Lane Culver. He gave me a good deal on a LS6 with CNC ported 862 heads and a cam in it with only 12 thousand miles on the whole motor that he pulled out of a Z06.
I brought the transmission to a buddys transmission shop to have them go through it and build it so it will hold 500-600 rwhp... I know I wont have that much but I have a nitrous kit I am putting on for the track, so I want it to hold up.
I am also going to drop in a new rear end that is suppose to have moser internals with a locker and 3.73s. Along with that I have some adjustable spohn lower control arms, and a adjustable SLP torque arm.
I am open to any suggestions that you guys have for me during this build, any and all input is appreciated!

I was just reading your thread last night about your SS. I like it, it looks like a very clean car!
I am debating on doing a under drive pulley while I have the motor out. I would like for some one to chime in and say whether its worth it or not.

What do you guys recommended for a converter? I was thinking around 3500.. I plan on running a 3.73 rear end.
I was informed this morning in the internal engine section that my cam is a Comp cam 224/228 .581/.588 with 114 lobe seperation, advanced +4 degrees.
The car is mainly a DD but will see a few trips to the track each year and a little fun on the streets.

Update on the build
I have been working a lot of hours so I haven't been able to work on the car like I planned on doing. But I am pretty close to being done with it. I am waiting on a throttle body to come in, but after I get it. I can install it and the nitrous kit and I will be ready to get a tune!

Tuners in North Al
I am wondering who you guys recommended for tuning in north al?
I have heard about Lane Culver in Laceys Spring, and Scott Culbert for albertville.
I would like to hear some feed back from whoever you guys recommended..

That is quite the car stand you had going on there!
As for the pulley being worth it... I am happy with my decision to go with one. The cost is nominal in the grand scheme of things, and I definitely noticed the engine revs quicker. I'm going to the track on Saturday to see if it did anything in that regard.

I ended up getting a ud pulley as well, I did notice that it seems to Rev really fast compared to any other camaro I have heard, I guess there are a lot of variables though. It could be the 10" PTC converter that weighs 21#s less than factory, the heads flow real good, more compression, the ud pulley... But I am ready to get it done so we can actually drive it!
