v6 to ls1?
i have a 2000 3.8L v6 camaro and i want to put an ls1 engine into it and im wondering about the differences of the v6 model camaro and the v8 etc how many things must be replaced and if i were to get a ls1 engine w/ tranny from another camaro like an ss would it be easier or would i have to get diff tranny

Wouldn't it be easier & cheaper in the long run to simply sell it & buy a real LS1 powered car?!?
Is the car currently an M5 car? If so, then yes, you'd probably better change it.
(V6=Manual 5-speed, V8=Manual 6-speed)
If it's an A4, with the 4L60E, then maybe not.
But I don't know if the V6 cars got the same 4L60E automatic transmission.
We need more information.

Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.
Of course not everyone can get deals like I do, but..
I'll have $5k total into a hardtop H/C/I LS1, w/ built trans, full bolt ons, suspension, and other odds and end.
Not bad I'd say....Shooting for mid 11's...I don't think i could buy one that cheap.

try a search, theres a lot of threads about it. in a nutshell, youll need everything from gas tank to suspension (front), to engine/trans, conputer, electrical...the list goes on. its not a simple swap. this is why everyone says to just buy the car already.

you will spend more money in the conversion than you would in the insurance... insurance does take a fun chunck but parts+shop time+future probs=$$$$$$$$$$$
buy a ls1 car and have it done right the first time around

Quick rundown! i will be swapping my v6 for a forged 347 on july 22nd(atleast attempting bahaha) as far as what you need ATLEAST; Motor, tranny, front suspension, ecu/harness, gauge cluster, ls1 radiator, ls1 driveshaft, gas tank can stay the same, but i would upgrade fuel pump. Rearend(depends what you have now, but can possible keep the rear. Honestly their is alot of **** nickel and dimeing me right now. BUt then again i have over 10k into a forged motor/built tranny car conversion!

I completely understand your problem with sentimental value. I too have that problem with my V6.
It would be more worthwhile if you put another engine in it besides the LS1. I'd rather see you swap a V6 for another LS engine than a perfectly good LS1 F-body for a LS2,3,6,7,9,A.
I was contimplating doing this to my V6 for a long time. But I think I'm going to wait until GM comes out with the fifth gen LS engines in a crate package.
Just get a doner car, look at both of them and note the differences. Take lots of pictures. Ask lots of questions. Have lots of patience. And like others have said, it's not the cheapest route. And you most likely will never get anywhere close to what you put into it if you decide to sell it later on down the road.
I know that the LS2 through LS7 will work with the Camaro's LS1 computer. You will need to use a few components from the LS1 though. There is a thread on here that talks about that. I think it's called L98 swap... not sure.
Good luck with your car!
EDIT:
Make sure you put some quiet exhaust on your car so it will be a great sleeper!

if you want to gasin a hige performance exploration for the v6 check out fullthrottlev6.com, there is some fast **** over there, depends on your goals, i got my car in the mid 13's trapping 105 mph, but the ls1 is where its at!

11.40 was the best pull that night, got kicked(kinda) but the run prior was whats posted on ftv6 recently.
i dont bother posting unless i have a back up run for confirmation...anything within .15 i considered backed up.only reason i posted the 11.7 run on that site is because i felt it was very well backed..and they redid the timeslips.
yeah, you read that correctly. mid 11's over a year ago.
many knew of it, but kept it under wraps per my request since i felt it wasnt backed up.
