Default FM Turbo ls1 in a 3rd gen

Im putting a lq4 in my 91 z28 and was planning to do a front mount turbo, im trying to find some more info on the manifolds that will fit and the best way to set it up? I know of one person on another forum that has done it but its not really a true front mount. Can this be done without making custom turbo headers? any help is appreciated, thanks

Theres a sticky in the forced induction forum about truck header turbo fabrication, check there, it answers all of your questions.

I wanna do the same thing on My 3rd gen. That thread really only mentions the specifics of fitment on a 4th gen. Although it says the only things you need to move/relocate are the A/C compressor and move the alternator to the top passenger side. So I'm thinking they will probably work on a third gen. I bet if you use an aftermarket K-member which free's up alot of space it would be pretty easy.

I thought it would be easy also, until I took a closer look and realized that a huge space saver on a 4th gen is the rack and pinion, and we have a horribly placed center link going through the middle. I could get creative with my tubing and probably get around it but i was also worried about the pass. side manfold clearing the idler arm. what do you guys think?

The F body headers point up, you can get creative with em and make something work I bet.

That will definetly be the best and easiest way to do it. Maybe look into some aftermarket manual rack and pinion setups too. I know Hawks sells em for like $300 bucks. That would get rid of the resivoir and the whole center link steering assembly...just an idea but please PLEASE keep us posted as to what you figure out. Trying to do the exact same thing lol. Thanks and G/L!

Not many details because its in a very primitive state at this point. The K-member was cut out to allow the 6.0 manifold to fit facing down and forward and will be filled back in to keep the integrity there. Could end up making some headers for this setup to face forward.....anyone interested in basic mild steel headers to do that in your thirdgens??

Gee, ya THINK??? (In other words, HELL yeah...)

Turbocharging my engine wouldn't be something that I'd be able to do in the near future, but in, say, 3 - 5 years when the aftermarket's a little more familiar w/ the VVT in the newer engines, I'd be ALL over it... Depending on the price, I might just buy the fwd-facing headers to sort of piece things together for when that day comes...

You can see some of my work in my other threads. Would you guys wants stainless or is mild okay? I figure I would leave the collector long and the end user could cut to length and have the v-band flange of their choice added. Thoughts?

Stainless would be my first choice for sure. And if possible, can you do a 1 3/4 primaries? with probably 2 1/2 collectors? Or what do you think? Is that to big? And if your doing one right now, I would be interested in a crossover tube as well, with the turbo flange and wastegate flange already attached is that possible? (i can't weld or do metal work whatsoever lol)
Kinda like the whole kit. I would pay good money for something like that that's quality and I know it will fit for sure...
