Default LSx/ Third Gen Fbody air intake options...

Hey all, Im getting ready to swap my 1990 Firebird with a LSx engine. I have the engine figured out but am looking for options on the Air intake plumbing. What are you swap guys using for an air filter and elbow, etc???

Pics and part numbers or links would be great!!!

Thanks,
Chris

These are old pics, but shows the intake. 3.5 inch aluminum tubing and a 90mm elbow. I bought both online and not sure I can find the stores now.

It's probably too small, but my stock intake tube fit perfectly.

Whatever you do - make sure the filter element is outside of the engine compartment to pick up cool air.

Good advice if you have the room. Mine is in the engine bay, because of how I have my fuse blocks positioned. No room to put the filter anywhere else. I even toyed with moving the battery to the back, and running the filter on the passenger side. But I didnt really feel like doing a battery relocate.

I can watch my IATs, and while sitting still, they do get pretty darn high. And once they get up there, it takes a little bit of driving to cool things off. When moving though, my IATs stay really low. The ol thirdgens had awesome air flow under those noses. Atleast in my experience. Easily the coolest running cars Ive owned.

Here is my super simple set up. Im going to try to modify my fuse blocks, and then run the filter over into/below the fender area. There is a decent gap over by the driver's side of the radiator, and Im getting ok airflow there. Its worked for the 4+ eyars that Ive been driving a thirdgen swap car.

Also...and this is just my feeling...stay away from K&N. I had to constantly clean my MAF sensor due to the oil. The filter Im using is an Amsoil dry flow. Very nice filter for the money, and no oil.

For your elbows and tubing, check out intakehoses.com. You can get clamps and elbows and tubing from them. I think its where I got most of my stuff. Just not the filter. Good prices, and good shipping. I trust em.

If you have one by you, Pep Boys sells the parts you need to make your own intake. This site also has some good stuff. http://intakehoses.com/Merchant2/mer...T&Store_Code=I

Here's mine. I just used some mandrel bent aluminized tubing. Got silicon connectors from ebay. Using a Spectre filter from Autozone.

another thing to consider, im using a full Lingenfelter intake off an 04 GTO. even the stock GTO air intake would work great.
