I started working on this last week. I've had it about 3 months, but have been lacking motivation. Well with the weather getting warmer I figured I should start it already. 1972 Chevy short bed getting a 2003 lq4. I was looking for a 5.3, but came across the 6.0 for a good price, so I couldn't pass it up. It.s got almost 80k on it, but I got to hear it run and drove the truck it was in, which was a first for me because all the others I never heard run. I've also got a fleetside bed for it because I'm not real fond of step sides.
This is what had to go! 250 six cylinder, but it did have p/s, p/b, and an automatic.
And when I was tearing it apart, I found this, an Arkansas battery tray!
Out with the old......
and in with the new..... well, newer anyway!

love it love it love it. My friend and I are going to do the same swap in his 84 chev dually. the old 454 is tired, and he's sick of not passing anything but a gas station.

Yeah, this is the truck. Joe and I picked it up in Fayetteville Arkansas a few days after you posted the Craig's List link. Looks like I owe you a thank you, because I'd have never found it otherwise.

I used the stock engine stands with poly mounts with the Transdapt conversion plates.
Fuel system will be an external fuel pump using the stock fuel lines and tank

It's out of the 2003 Silverado. I'm using literally everything I got off of that truck, Engine, trans, hydroboost, trans cooler, p/s cooler, and all of the A/C. I have been working on it, just a little slow with the updates on here.

What mounts did you use? Whats you fuel system setup?
I took the original frame stands off of the '03, and modified them to bolt into the '72 frame. I plan on using a Walbro 255 inline on the frame. I'm using the original gas tank with a modified sender for the return. I have pics of one I did that way back in '05, but I can't find it right now. But it is still working fine though.

if i had that truck there is no way i would change the bed or paint it. get the steel wheels widened and have some fun!!!
nice project
Well, if the previous owner hadn't tried to make it look better by painting the back half of it Army green I would leave it, but it looks really bad. They didn't even mask it off, they just tried to paint around everything, there's paint on the window seals, door handles, ect. and it doesn't come off! I tried to get it back to the original faded green paint, but no dice. So..... the step side is now gone in favor of a fleetside, I like them better. As for the wheels, I've already got three 8" wide "hubcap" wheels for it, just need one more, but they are rarer than rare. I don't even know what they came on, but they're factory wheels.

Been slowly plugging away on this truck. I got the engine all figured out and pulled everything back out to start cleaning everything up. I had a little bit of welding to do to the bottom of the cab, so this seemed like the easiest way to do it.
pretty solid cab though.
Also got the engine painted, after cleaning the crap out of it and masking it off.
Then some etch prime.
And finally Chevrolet engine orange. My camera is making it look kinda pink, but it's very orange!
