Default HELP NEEDED 5.3 in 99 4x4 S-10

I am by no means new to engine building and whatnot, but I am considering putting a 5.3 or 4.8 in my 99 4x4 S-10. SO.... What all would I need other than the engine, ecu, and harness? ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I believe you'll need engine mounts as well. Have fun pulling that engine out. The upper bolts for the bellhousing are a major PIA. had to jack up the body to gain access to them.

There are many parts needed for this swap. Check out www.s10forum.com there is a whole section dedicated to LS(X) s10 swaps. You will need headers, oil pan, and motor mounts. Not sure what intake and accys work in a 4x4 but probally gonna be from a vette or f bod. A small block chevy swap is really easy because u can use the stock 4.3L pan and just get another from a junkyard blazer (more common) and weld them together to be long enough for a SBC (info in Jagsthatrun s10 swap book). There are also headers avaible for anound $100 I beleive for a SBC. A 98+ model vortec 350 or 305 would also work with your currect ECM. It would be short on horses and fuel economy from the 4.8 or 5.3 though.

Plan on a fabricated oil pan and custom headers. You'll need modified driveshafts, a harness and all of the normal swap stuff.....(lotsa money)

The LS-x, 4WD S10 is the most difficult of the s-series swaps.

What makes it the most difficult?

Does anybody make any oilpans/headers for this swap?

Just go about it the redneck way. Go getcha' a 4x4 fullsize 99 up pickemup truck frame and weld your s-10 body onto it No help but at least you got a bump

Here's alot of good info on putting any LS engine in an S-10. The only thing it won't strait up tell you is how to do your oil pan on a 4x4. You can fabricate one, or try one from an H3. I'm told they bolt right up, but haven't seen it.

Hope this Helps...
