Summit Racing Vss an Option?
I was looking for a way to solve my vss issue for my third gen swap. Ive been told that the dakota digital senders will tell the computer when your moving or not but cannot work with the factory speedo for some reason. I have found, what i believe is a viable option. Summit racing sells this sender http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G2887-1/ which i think could work.
I know the t56 sends 17 pulses per revolution and the 4l60e sends 40. This unit is a hall effect one that sends 16 pules per revolution. Can this be compensated for when having the engine tuned via efi live?
I am using a Tremec 3550, and by this point im about ready to scrap the manual and put in a th400. Any help is appreciated, i would love to keep this thing a stick like it was from the factory.

For your 84 with a cable driven speedo, you just need to get the electric speed input to the PCM in the ballpark. The cable will keep your speedo accurate and some form of speed input will keep you from stalling at stop lights
JTR sells the correct cable/electric VSS for around the same price

I'm no expert on this but 16 ppr is pretty close to the 17ppr used with the manual trans, and efi live can change vss input within certain ranges.
Also, you may want to check on running the speedo directly from a vss. The computer puts out a 4000 ppm for the speedo.
BTW thanks for the Summit link, I'm going to try thay on mine.

The computer takes the 17 or 40 ppr vss signal and converts to 4000ppm for the speedo. It also uses that 4000ppm speedo signal for the cable TB cruise control.
For dbw cruise control, you'll need the computer to read the VSS signal somewhat accurately. It only requires the VSS signal to control the speed.
I would try the 16ppr summit unit and readjust the computer for that sensor.
Let me know if it works, I'll order one too.
