Default PS Pump Install & Removal w/ or w/o pulley?

Does the PS pump pulley need to be removed to install and remove the pump from a truck LSX? My pump came with the pulley detached and I'm not sure if I should wait until AFTER the pump is mounted to attach it or if I can attach it now and leave it on. I'm not sure if I'll be able to reach the mounting bolts with it installed.

Thanks for any tips.

There is a mounting bolt behind the pulley. Use the removal/install tool and put the pulley on after mounting the pump.

I have had to do it both ways, depending on the engine/mount/pump.

You can try and get a very slim wrench to loosen that bolt behind the pump. Many have said to use one of them Bicycle pedal wrenches.

I just picked up a check Harbor Freight puller/installer kit.. or was that from Kragen.. anyway.. it can be done (some times ??? LOL).

I attempted to do it without removing the pulley. After 20 mins of cussing, I dug up my puller tool and removed it. Easy as pie. With the pulley out of the way, theres no need to remove the waterpump and drain all your coolant

The bracket and pump I just got in the mail has the pulley on it. I can't imagine that the seller took the pulley off to remove anything and then pressed it back on. Might as well take it off and replace it with an old ford pulley while you have it out.
