Default 6.0L LS2 in TJ Wrangler - Torque Converters

Im doing doing a second LSx into a TJ (this one if for my wife's wrig). the first one was a 5.7L alloy LS1, 4L60E, NP-231 Transfer Case, 4.56 gears and 33" tires. this current project is going to be a 6.0L LS2, 4L80E/6L80E, 3.8:1 Atlas, 4.56 gears and 35" tires (37s off road). my question is what torque converter stall speed to run. i am thinking 1800 or 2000 (or even the stock unit like our last project). im not looking for off the line performance so much as matching my horspower and revs to the torque converter itself. anyone have any thoughts on this and also what did you run in your conversion?

The old rule of thumb is lost revs is lost torque. 1800 to 2200 max imo. But that is with limited real world experience.

its mainly a trail wrig and rock crawler but also tows a 4000lb camper trailer on touring trips. initially i thought maybe a 2200 or 2400 stall unit would be appropriate but didnt want to overshoot it (thus the 1800-2000 unit). also, the 6.0L will run in stock form (no cam mod) although it will get a dyno tune. im gonna do a flash stall test on the 5.7L wrig and see what i get for ballpark comparisons.

stock TC would be best to keep heat to a minimum, going to need a big cooler and probably a fan!

Stock converter from a 2002 camaro on my LS6/4L60E TJ. With the 4.56 and 33" tires you are looking at 2000 stall should be plenty.

thanks for the input - keep it coming! tranny will get a deep sump tubed Derale pan and a big B&M stacked plate cooler up front. will see how it goes without a cooler fan - the main electric fan pulls 3300cfm so may be adequate.

did a flash stall test on the 5.7L with the 4L60E. looks to be about 2400. dunno what the 4L60 came with stock but the real question is what a 6.0L with a 4L80E will do. im thinking 2200

Level of fun is always the question. My LS6 wrangler at 2200 stall is good.

My 67 Nova with the LS1/4L60E is the next level of fun. 375 hp on the chassis dyno. Yank 3200 stall converter. It's very fun off the line. Drives like stocker until you nail it and then it's off to the races. In a Jeep at 400 hp you would really need to be paying attension.
