Mini tubin a 1st gen f body
hello im in the process of getting things together to do a mini tub in my 68 camaro, its gonna have a ls1 and a 6 speed but i wanna put a big tire under the back,I was wondering what to use for a fuel tank,i want an intank pump also,im not looking to spend a tone of money on a fuel tank, these prices that ive seen are absolutely ridiculous 800-1400 I think thats insane, has any one narrowed there own and installed baffels so they dont get fuel loss going around corners and how much did it cost and what did u use,btw im a certified welder thanks guys any input would be awesome

Just starting to mini-tub my 68 and agree that some of these aftermarket tank prices are ridiculous.
If you can tig really well, then you should make one of your own. You can find gas tank baffling guides online.

I used the stock tank that was in the car. I had a sump welded on and electric pump for the Big Block previously. So I just changed the pump and regulator and ran new lines.

I posted this before on another thread about the same issue, here's what I did. Cheap and effective. My car has the DSE Mini tubs in it, the only reason you'd need to narrow it is for the exhaust to pass buy, if you're a welder you can chop off the front corners to make a path.
I put the LS1 "bucket" assembly in my stock 1st gen tank. It was no easy task, you'll have to cut down the bucket to 7" tall, graft in the ring from the LS1 tank (welding on tank required), and I had to reverse the wires on the stock ls1 sending unit to get it to read in the right direction after I modded it. It was a lot of work, but it didn't cost me much more than time. Here's a few pictures of how I did it.
Fuel pump before
And after cutting it down to fit my tank
I'm running the aeromotive regulator because I want to be able to run with a Carb for a while, and with a spring change you can bump it up to 4 bar pressures.

Just going to throw this out there. There is an alternative to baffling your tank. Its called a walbro MP pick-up. baffling is used to try and keep fuel at the pick-up to keep from starving the engine. Its a battle against gravity and gravity will win 8 out of 10 times.
The walbro pick-ups can be positioned anywhere in the tank and in multiple places so when gravity throws your fuel to one side or up front or to the back you can have a pick-up there to greet it.
All it takes is a little creativity and you can have a fail proof system. I just finished mine and testing so far looks great.
