1987 Caprice LQ4 Swap/Build thread!!
Whats up LS1Tech, here is my build/swap thread on here and might be helpful for some with a box caprice that wants to do the same. Will have prices included. This gone be a stock type swap first on a hell of a budget. Said I'd drop it in stock since changing cams and heads on these LS engines aint isnt all that hard while installed. I pulled my engine out in about an hour and a half...It was a pretty strong engine I had built a few years back which put my car as fast as 12.90 through the 1/4. But it was time for a LS engine to get in here. Few pics of engine when it was in the car and once after taken out and also a quick pic of the car. Sold complete with headers and all.

Here is a price list of everything and I really think this may be the cheapest swap I've seen for a 6.0L swap.
Parts list:
LQ4 40k miles = $400
MSD 6010 = $320
Edelbrock RPM intake = FREE.........was gone be $75 but we worked out a deal...
Longtube EBAY Headers = $190
Mount Adapters = $100......should've been $45 but I rushed it..
Holley Blue fuel pump = $107
Throttle bracket = $25
Oil pan cooler block off plate = $20
= $1162 BEST LS BUDGET I DONE SEEN for a 6.0 swap
also subtract $250 from this from the LS1 intake that came with the engine that I sold so now its less than $900
Didnt have to buy a flexplate and spacer because on my 04' LQ4 it was coupled with a 4L80 trans and it came stock with a spacer already installed. All you have to do is enlongate the flexplate holes a lil bit and thats what ima do. No point of buying new. Here are pics of the spacer/flexplate that comes stock on the newer 6.0L engines and also the knock sensor wires which I dont know what to do about that...so HELP NEEDED ASAP..Do i just cut them and leave em plugged up or what?. (as in AFTER 2000')

Thanks man....car is fully redone...took a while to get it there. trying to find that darn oil block off plate and need to figure out what to do about those knock sensor wires. I'll have the engine painted up nice this weekend. will start installing it sometime next week. Also have to figure out what to do about the coolant crossover issue. Will go to our local upullit Saturday morning as no one here is really big on the LS game!! LUCKY ME I guess.

This my buddy car he going with a carb. I'll get some pics this weekend. Since we used the stock th350 it brought the motor close to the fire wall, can't use the stock truck a/c compressor. Using the caprice radiator, just flushed it with water and flushed the heater core. But I did my 72 cutlass efi, but I had the donor car so I had the radiator and I used the cutlass OEM reserve tank. I also used the complete stock a/c system from the donor car, I had to cut my air box in half to extend it so the donor car evaporaor will fit.

Hey guy....quick question about milling the 317s on my LQ4..The cam Im wanting to use is the EPS 234/246 or 236/248....Either one of those. I have to have that choppy idle also so im going to call Geoff and see what he says...But with either of those cams, would i have to flycut by milling the 317s .030 or .040??????

i used hedman longtubes, i'll post a pic soon. they had enough room to slide in the pass. thru the top and the drivers side thru the bottom. the pass. rubs on the control arm mount even after some massaging. the drivers side collector is pointed toward the framerail. it would have been a big benefit to set the motor back a full inch.

stay safe but I have a video of the car in the carb. lsx section. Almost done, think I may have to do something about the fuel system.
