Default Porsche 944 with 5.3 LM4

I was originally going to be putting a 454 BBC but plans changed and I found this engine for a good deal as well as the kit for the engine. At the end of the swap, the car should eight the same as is did before so I get to keep the 50/50 weigh distribution. I plan on modifying the stock harness, putting a LS1 intake on and a LS6 cam, and that's pretty much it. However, once I have completed the swap I will be upgrading transaxles. When I have a stronger one, a turbo will be fitted to the engine. I'm excited and cant wait to finish this.

The beautiful engine

This is turning into a very popular swap. I think you are going to be much happier with the LS motor over the Big Block. Weight advantage aside.

What is your plan for the FEAD setup? I'm still not totally clear on whether the truck ones stick out farther to the front, or exactly what the deal is with them...

Thanks for the comments!
Here is the stock wiring harness that I will modify for the swap.

As far as the FEAD, I might get a fbody one or build my own. They guy I'm buying the kit from has it all complete so I might just get it from him.

This is the business end of the swap. This is where the magic happens. It's a C5 Corvette Auto BH with an adapter plate make to bolt right up to the stock Porsche torque tube. I will be picking up the rest of the kit in two weeks.

Renegade hybrids makes the kit and adapter but QuickTime makes a bellhousing that bolts up to the torque tune and fits a ls,sbc, bbc engine

Okay guys, picked up the rest of the kit yesterday and I am soooo excited! It came with the big stuff like oil pan, clutch, headers, motor mounts, bellhousing and adapters. Still need to purchase a lot of stuff for this swap but its all downhill for now!

Not much but I did purchase a LS2 cam with yellow springs and chain/sprocket. Also got a new starter. I'm in the processes of moving so things are going really slow but once the dust settles I will be working a lot more on it.

If you want to use the 4l60 there will be a lot more work involved. I am using the stock tranny and torque tube (for now). Its a transaxle so the thing sits in the back. If you use the 4l60 then you will have to completely remake the drive train. That means tranny in the middle, custom driveshaft, and rear end (8.8 ford or something). Not to mention you might have to modify the trans tunnel. Also you lose the perfect 50/50 weight distribution. It's doable, just not preferred

I haven't built anything yet, just buying parts and doing research.

I bought a set of wheels and tires as well as some other engine goodies.

I have been researching suspension and transmission for my setup. Also I am in the process of moving and building my new garage so it has taken a lot of time and money away from the Porsche. Pictures and more updates coming soon!

I have an 1988 na 944 that im looking to put a LM4 ($400 but dont know the miles) or a LQ9 ($1200 with 94k). I know the LQ9 has more power but can I make as much power from the LM4 for the price difference. I am looking to make 350hp. I also know the LQ9 need to relocate the idler pully but dont know if this needs done for the LM4. Would LS1 intake, fuel rail, injecters, and throttle body be ok for the LM4? Any info would be appfeciated.

I would stick to the LM4. All aluminum engine means you keep the 50/50 weight distribution. If you don't care about it, then you can go with the LQ9 cause you will have more power. All comes down to preference. But the LM4 with LS1 parts will work just fine.
