I know, it's been absolutely awesome here lately!!! I'm trying to use as much as I can while it lasts.

Got most of the wiring wrapped up, but still have a few loose ends to finish up. The 3 wires with the masking tape labels are for the speedo, tach, and check engine light, they will be wired into the dash cluster later.

This is a shot under the dash, you can see the headlight switch from the 2002 Silverado, it's needed for the automatic headlights to work. I mounted it there so I can reach the dome override switch so I can turn the headlights off when I want to. I wired the original headlight switch in the dash and the 2002 together so it still works. The light minder chime works with both switches, I wasn't expecting it to work with the '71 switch, but it does!

This is a pic of a modified relay that I'm using to put a load on the brake light circut. I'm using LED brake lights and they don't have enough resistance for the cruise control to work, so by wiring this in, it puts enough resistance in the circut for it to work. I took the relay apart and took the contact part out of it and am just using the coil part. the wires are soldered to it and it's zip tied to the harness behind the dash.

Need to get this 15 foot long harness run through the cab too. It's for the auto dimming, compass/temp mirror. Will have pics of the mirror installed later.

I love the auto dimming compass mirrors, I have them in every car.
Nice job on the head and brake lights.

Is this truck going to use the GM remote like your other cars? I'm thinking of doing that to the Thunderbird just because it would be fun.

Man this is some real nice work. I'm assuming the head light switch is wired through the bcm. Also if you don't mind me asking, I used an 06 ls with 4l60e out of a Tahoe with dbw for my conversion. I'm getting ready to add cruise. I'm assuming that I would need that load relay also if wanting led tail lights. I have the updated brake light switch already would that relay just go between the brake light switch and the wire going out to the lights. Also are you making the tail lights or buying thanks.

I usually use aftermarket remotes. This one is getting the Python (DEI) remote start that I took off my old winter beater when it crapped out on me last year. I wanted to put it on my new winter beater but its new enough that I don't feel like messing with it. If the winter gets bad enough I'll just take it somewhere and have one put on.

If you're going to run LED brake lights you will need something. I used the relay because it's easy and I have them laying around. You need the resistance of at least one 1157 light bulb, so you could use a light bulb too, but it could burn out and also would light up where ever you put it. When you hook it up it needs to be connected to the brake light switch on the side that is hot when the brakes are applied. On your truck it should be the white wire. The other side goes to ground.

I'm using some full lens LED panels that go behind the original lenses. They have something like 100 LEDs per side, they're bright! I bought them off ebay a couple years ago.

That would be correct, it's wired just like you would wire a 3rd brake light, straight off the switch.

Still working on this truck, but going slower than expected. I really wanted to have it done before it got stupid cold, but doesn't look like that's going to happen, so I'm probably going to slack off on it a bit. I did manage to get the mirror in and working.

Ran the wires through this little grommet, and fished them across the top of the windshield by taking out the driver's side sun visor and using that hole to pull the wires through, then fished them through the back of the cab above the driver's door. It's a giant PITA! But, hey, at least now I know how cold it actually is! 56* when these pics were taken, wish it was that warm now.

Also been working on getting my gauges all fixed up. On my last truck I didn't want to use a Cable-X due to the fact that they seem to be getting worse in regards to quality. I have bought 4 of them, the first one still works great, has over 100k on it and is about 11 years old, but every one I have bought since then has gotten worse with the last one just not working at all at times. That said, I decided to try my hand at an electric speedo conversion. I had met a guy at a show that put the guts out of an S-10 behind his '72 speedo face, but it didn't line up quite right and he also didn't have it functional. I took his idea and with alot of work, made it work. Here is a thread I put up on it when I was making the one for my orange truck. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=512751

What did the mirror come out off and how did you get it to install like a stock one?
Great build I love it.

Not sure as of yet, turned in my vacation bid at work, but alot of the senior guys seem to want the same time off so we'll see.

The mirror is out of a 2002 Silverado, what I did was took both it and the original mirror apart and put the mounting/pivot part out of the original in the new one. You have to trim some of the inside of the plastic part and drill the hole in the back then epoxy the original pivot to it. It sounds harder than it is, and at first I was worried that the epoxy wouldn't be strong enough, but I've done several of them and they're still together.

Not sure of the number, but it's a factory hose for the 2003 Silverado. I bought it when I was building my orange truck, but my dumbass misplaced it, so I just used the original hose that came with the engine, then a month or so ago I found it in my spare bedroom!

Not much in the way of progress in the last month, funny how not much gets done when you don;t work on it! Just way too cold around here these days. But I did manage to get the gauges finished up since I could bring them inside where it's warm. I didn't paint the needles or put it all in a shiny new bezel since I'm going for an untouched look on the interior. The casual observer probably won't even notice the gauges have been modified, the way I like it. I also added a voltmeter in place of the original ammeter, a clock in the unused lower hole, and you can't see it, but there's a 'check engine' light in the lower corner of the gas gauge.

Then I spent some time working on the A/C lines. Oh the irony, I'm working on air conditioning parts while freezing my *** of in a very cold garage. Yes that's snow on the ground outside.

Made this line to clear the frame with out having to notch it alot. It's the original fitting with the line cut off and the hole welded up, then I bent a new line, drilled a hole inn the side of the fitting and added the new line to it. Still needs to be TIG'd together, but looks like it's going to work out nice.
