72 Chevelle exhaust question
I am about to install my 5.3 in the chevelle and don't really know what to do about the exhaust. The small block that came out of the car had headers, but I don't know if that is what I want to go back with. The car will be a daily driver and the 5.3 is stock other than a ls6 cam. Are the truck manifolds pretty good? I really don't want to spend another $500 when I am already over budget on the swap already.
If I do go with manifolds, who makes the pipe from the manifolds to the flange with the o2 sensor installed.
Thanks in advance, and Merry Christmas!

Stock manifolds should be just fine, they worked on the original engine so why not on yours? I agree with bczee regarding the head pipes, just remember to get the o2 bungs if they are not in the manifolds.

When I put the truck manifolds on my Chevelle, the flanges were to wide for my framerails, that could be just where I set my engine, so I cut the flanges off and welded V-Bands to them. Then I had to take the Proportioning Valve on the inside left framerail and unbolt it and push it up out of the way. After that they worked great!

I used the 98-02 f body manifolds. They support at least 350 hp, fit between the frame, dont hit the firewall, clear my z bar, and cost me $40 used. I could not get the truck manifolds to fit in my 72 442. You'll need O2 bungs welded in just below the collector. Got my flanges from speedwat motors.
