LS1 F body pan and oil filter
Something weird going on with oil filters. My new swap is an LS1 block with a Fbody pan. Engine is on the engine stand in my shop. Went to the local Fleet Farm and looked up a filter for 2002 Camaro. Fram# is 3506. I selected the TG3506. Tuff guard. Tried to install and it would not thread on. It's like the threads on the filter are too small in diameter. Thought that is weird wild stuff so I had a 2009 Denali pan from another swap and same thing it would not thread on. So today I went out to the same Fleet Farm and spent the big bucks on a Mobil 1 filter # M1-107 same thing it would not thread on.Per the book 2004?-up truck are the same as the Fbody filter.
So I went to my LS6 98 Wrangler and looked at the filter. Fram #3506.
Any one else with problems? Need help.

There are two different thread sizes on Gen III / IV engines. The original Gen III engines use a standard thread (13/16" I believe) and the later Gen IV engines use a 22MM metric boss. I'm not sure when the switch was made, but if you look for a filter for a 2007 Silverado, it will be the new metric style.
Did you buy the pan as a new in box replacement or used? If it is a new pan, it will be the newer style boss.

The earlier one used the PF46, the newer larger thread ones use the PF48.
If you want to use the other sized one, you can order the threaded bushing part to replace it from a dealer, which is what I did on one of my swaps.. I wanted both to be using the same filter that way I would only have to stock one..
PF46, Fran 3506 or the Wix 51042. (13/16-16 Inch)
PF48, Fran PH10060 or the Wix 57060 (22mmx1.50mm)

I have no opinion, but some like to remove it.

If that's what was in the little hole under the filter, then I would say it does. I just got done swapping my old F'd up pan (long story..LOL) with a new one and there is nothing in that hole like there was with the old pan. I was going to swap out the threaded part the filter goes on with the one out of the old pan but after noticing that piece missing I just went and got another new filter.
