LQ4runner Build Thread
Ive been a long time reader. Decided to start my build thread now that things are starting to come together. Ive had my 86 4runner for a while (2011). Bought from an old co-worker in Virginia Beach. It had no motor in it when i got it. but it had about three 22re's worth of parts plastic wrapped on pallates in the back. I did a mild engine build. Full ARP'd 22re with a cam/header. drove great for about a year. I used it when I moved from Virginia Beach back to Brookeville (May 2012). I hydrolcoked the motor in a mud hole (cold night, Nov 2012). I purged it and kept driving it after a oil change. No problems...untill I threw a rod through the side of the block. After pulling the head, I found that the #3 spark plug (cylinder with the most water in it) had heat shocked and dropped the porcelan. I have 35s on it and regeared the axles. This truck isnt a rock crawler, just a weekend wheeler. The 22re barely had enough power for what I want. Thats when I decided to engine swap it. While waiting to find an engine, I soild axle swapped it. After the solid axle swap. I pulled the body off and cleaned/POR15 the frame. Then I came across a LQ4 with a blown head gasket. Im almost done rebuilding that. Short block is in the truck. Im working on the heads/trans now.
Vehicle:
86 4runner
83 Toyota solid front axle
47" rear toyota leaf springs upfront
56" 2.5" chevy/ford leaf springs in the rear
35" BFG M/T KM2's
Mastercraft seats
Engine:
01 LQ4
ARP Rod bolts
stock pistons/rods
Melling oil pump
comp 54-455-11 - 215/223*
stock 317s
valve spring/rocker upgrade
Transmission:
700r4 with a monster kit on the way
1800-2200 stall boss hog
advanced adapters kit to the stock toyota gear driven t-case
stuff I still need to work out:
Header/exhaust. I have very bulky engine mounts.
intake manifold. thinking about the nnbs/tbss intake
fuel system
wiring/ecu
radiator
Any help/info is very much appreciated.

Header real estate
I used transdapt 4506 universal engine mounts. Id like to use long tubes but from all the ones ive seen i feel like the first header tube would hang too low.

Vss?
Got the trans all together and my wiring harness is done. I was wonder how nessecary is the vss? I've read some people making it work and some people say it's impossible with the decel/idle issues.

flexplate bolt alignment
I bought a LS to TH350/700r4 spacer and flexplate combo from summit. The hole pattern on the flexplate is 1/2in larger than the holes on the converter. I tried all 6 holes. Anyone else run into this issue?

Update
Got the trans and t-case in this weekend. I also got the topend of the motor on. The only clearance issues I have so far are from the brake booster vaccum port to the heater core inlet fitting. Looks like the hood should close.
