I'm in the middle of my 1996 gt lq4 stroker with a Jakes stage 2 th400. Has anyone used the factory shifter ? I would like to use it if its possible. It's not a full time track car, just something fun to drive.

I used the factory shifter in my old 89 Mustang with a 351w on spray. I made the bracket fit the trans to get all the detents aligned. Then I took the shifter apart, removed the plate that catches the shift lock arm, and welded and ground out spots so it would not miss the next gear. So, in first gear you held the button pushed the shifter to go into second, release the button to hit third, press the button to go into neutral. Worked perfect, and looked stock.

Yes you can use the stock shifter. I've done it on a customers car
