I work at a GM dealer so ive probably rebuilt 1000 of these damn things because theyre always blowing up lol. I think TCI has a pretty good video series on youtube for a performance 4L60 build.

and yeah matt is up there a lot, I would say its a love/hate relationship between him and island. first time I took my Fairmont there tech saw the LS and asked if I was "one of those damn sloppy guys" and wanted to know where the turbo was.

a little update for this:

had the first 11.50 index race up at island today, the first ones at etown and cecil were cancelled due to weather (it snowed here last Tuesday! lol) there were only 8 cars. last night I decided to swap on a pair of 26x10 MT slicks anticipating the track wouldn't be that great since it just opened for the year. I should have left the radials on - in the car it felt like it was all over the place but outside it doesn't look that bad. either way first qualifier I went an 11.57@115 and was #1, second qualifier I went 11.48@116 and everyone else tightened up which put me #7. ended up getting paired with an OG index guy. almost rolled the beams which made for a good light but I lost .1 up top but that wouldn't have mattered anyway because he ran a 11.52, all that aside the car ran good, didn't break, and the track paid out the full amount even though there weren't 16 cars which is a promising sign that they'll continue to have this class (it was nice not having to drive 2 hours)

its funny, a lot of the old heads at our backwoods track think this thing is really fast - "it doesn't look like itd be that fast" maybe im jaded from being around a lot faster cars I dunno. slow cars are a lot more fun in a lot of aspects haha.

drove the car literally all day today, ran to the shop this morning to swap the radials back on. decided it was time to finally install the SPOHN anti-roll bar (its been sitting in my garage for 5 months).

why did I not put this on sooner??!! car handles so much better and doesn't rub the 275's on turns anymore lol spent the rest of the day running errands, and generally just cruising. stopped at a few spots to take a few pics.

11.40's are fast in my book. especially considering that it doesn't take a real radical motor setup to get there..

the car's stance in those pics is perfect

minor setback this past week: was out cruising around last Monday night coming home from dinner - hit what I assume to be a large chunk of concrete that was laying in the road. couldn't avoid it (cars coming the other way) so I ended up smashing the #7 header tube. could have been a lot worse (it also grazed the oil pan)

my buddy sam fixed it for me during the week, amazingly if you're in a jam PepBoys carries all kinds of vibrant stainless exhaust tubing (got a tight radius 1&7/8 u-bend for $32! lol)

also did a few other things, like clean up the faded and peeling B-pillar trim with some plasti-dip (im all for faded paint, and patina put for some reason this bothered me)

raced the Malibu in the local 11.50 index last weekend, went 2 rounds which was cool and I also drove the car to the track which is about an hour each way (and I was the only car in the index class to do so I believe) - my buddy mark wanted to run in the prodial class so we both made the drive (hes a dragweek vet so no sweat for him lol). the day didn't start out great, was drizzling on and off the whole way up, rained at the track a little, was really humid, I didn't think I was gonna be close to the number but it went a .69 on the first pass and there was only 8 cars so I was in either way lol. the spohn anti-roll really made no improvement in my 60ft times - being that its not particularly high HP I wasn't expecting much but its much better to drive so it was definitely worth the $$$.
these slips are from 1st and 2nd qualifying shots

I also registered for dragweek, and im potentially going to take this car if I cant finish the other one im working on which should be fun so I cant wait for that. theres a few things id like to do if I take it most important is put 373s in it, change the converter and maybe the cam if I can scrounge up the dough.

just to update, been driving this daily pretty much since September. I took my mustang on dragweek and haven't touched it since I came back because this car is so much more comfortable lol.

I posted the car for sale, not sure if I really want to let it go but there is a bunch of other stuff id like to do this winter. ive had a desire to build a 64- 67 chevelle for a while so if I can sell both cars id love to get started on one.

I have a couple suspension questions. I read you used a 2" drop spindle but what springs are on the front, and did you notch the rear to fit that 275/60/15 tire? Your cars stance is so perfect, and those Centerlines are giving the BilletSpecialties StreetLites a run for their money in both looks and price wise. Too bad you're letting her go up for sell and even worse that i dont have the nuts to ruin everyone else's holiday wish list and buy it from you, lbvs!

2 inch drop spindles, stock front springs, no notch in the back - has a 15x8 wheel with 4inch backspace. only thing I had to do was trim the outer fender lip a little.

also I should note I have adjustable upper and lower rear control arms so the rear is centered (a lot of these cars I see the rear shifted to one side with the stock arms)
