For anyone interested i've got the center (3rd) radiator setup off my old project. It's off of a boxster s, includes center radiator, left hose, left pipe, right hose, right pipe, and crossover hose. I'll do $150 plus shipping.

Well I was originally planning on doing a 996 swap latter this year but came across this 997 and could not say no to. It's a salvage title with no motor but the price was right and perfect for the LS1 motor sitting in my garage. Anyone out there done a swap in a 997 or know if it can be done? I have already contacted Kennedy for an adaption plate for a G97.30 trans and plan on making my own engine supports.

Will be starting a build thread in a couple months once motor is done and I have the adapter plate

It's a C4S and already has the wider ***, which I like..Not sure yet on how I will deal with the rear quarter panel. From a cost perspective and value on a salvage tittled car and an LS swap I hope to be able to pull out the dent as flat as possible and use filler. Finding a C4S quarter panel will be hard and expensive. But if the rest of the car comes out nice I may consider doing it right.

Difference between a 996 and 997? From what I can see so far the engine compartments appear to be around the same size and not much difference in the cooling system. Gauges, sensors and ECU will probably be a little different but I plan on keeping the Porsche ECU and piggyback a LS1 PCM.

I would find the G96.50 Transaxle out of the Turbo car, it is AWD and has a 9" ring gear vs the 7" in the G96.01 and G96.30. The conversion has been done, the CAN-BUS system is the hard part to deal with, on the computer and wiring end.

Great to know its been done, I have searched Google and the forums and can't find any 997's with the swap. Regarding the transmission I got the G97.30 with the car and won't have the budget for changing unless I can sell the G97 and trade out. The G97 did come in the 3.8 997's @ 355hp and had x51 power option so I think this trans can handle the LS1 power but gearing will not be as desired and will likely drop 5-10mph when compared to the G96.50. Ring and pinion size are the same @3.44 but the G96.50 has a .75 6th gear and the G97 is .88

The r&p ratio is the same but the G96.50 has a larger ring and pinon, so it will handle the power better. Plus, yes it has more over direct in 6th gear.

Here are a couple photo's of a 997 that a guy built as a track only car. I think I found them over on 6speed or renlist. I used them to show myself how much was cut to use the LS water pump.

With regards to the transmission, this is also my dilemma, Your gonna want a LSD and the only one worth buying goes in the G50 tranny and to get a G50 tranny to fit your gonna need a different adaptor plate then the G97, so you might want to do it now.

Thought about that and only positive thing about my G97 is that the S models did come with LSD. Considering I will only be targeting 450hp I believe this transaxle will be ok but thinking back on my 2006 LS2 swap with a 915 trans cruising in 5th gear at 70mph and 3k RPMs sucked..but from 0-60 it was a beast with just 425hp at the wheels.

BTW, did anyone catch the previews for this season of Fast n Loud? Looks like they are doing a LS7 swap in a silver 996.

Awesome update for this thread. Being a 4S you should be able to fit a big tire under that fender. Using LS1 ecu as handling the car and the Porsche ecu for the rest of the car shouldn't be any different than the 996.

The factory LSD are weak, Guard makes a good one as does Wavetrack. The dash in the 997 has more CAN going on, AEM has an ecu that can handle it for the turbo cars and might be of help. Overall the 997 aren't super different chassis wise. Most folks drop the AWD but the 997 is electronically switched - at least on the turbo cars.
