Default Newbie needs help with a Chevelle swap

Ok, I'm a newbie to this forum and what I'm working on with my two sons.

I have a 1969 Chevelle and a complete pullout 5.3 engine and trans from a 2003 Tahoe.

Main question: The intake sits up too tall for the hood to close.

I've read where I could go with an LS1 or LS6 intake but it seems there modifications or changes required for each.

Anyone done a similar swap and can point me in a specific direction?

Thanks for your help.

I have a second question but will post it on a different thread.

Welcome to LS1tech!

I'd like to see some pix of this car!

The Tahoe engine has a "truck" intake manifold on it which has a higher throttle body/inlet location than car (LS1/LS6) manifolds.

GM did this to clear a water pump mounted fan. The rest of the accessory components match this. Swapping to the car intake means other things will interfere.

do you think you shave the garbage on intake you get it closed. I did on my skylark with hood brace trimming hood clears. my truck altenator was more a problem for clearance. maybe cowl hood would help?

I'm running the same combo in my 72 Chevelle wagon..."Project Greenbrier"...

My truck intake fits under my stock hood...

Is that a single hose for the upper? How'd you figure out what to use?

It should fit, maybe your engine is mounted in wrong so it's sitting high

It's a stock upper hose for a 99-05 GM truck/suv...

This was in mock up...

Thanks for all you guy's help.

I purchased an aftermarket oil pan so that the reservoir would not hang below the cross member however, because of the thickness of the front portion of the new low profile oil pan, the motor would rest on the cross member before it would align with the motor mounts so we had to extend the motor mounts. Maybe the problem is the new oil pan and that is pushing the motor up to far.

Any suggestions on the proper oil pan or would you just use the stock oil pan and let it hang down below the cross member a few inches?

I'll add some pics as soon as I get home - in the great state of Missouri on a sales call for my company.

Fbody you notch the x member and box it in.
CTSV may barely hang.
Holly pan will work but is pricey when you get everything for it to work.

What oil pan did you buy? Pics?

This...I used an F-body pan on mine...I didn't notch the crossmember, I dropped my engine down and back as far as I could. It's pretty tight...If I did another one, I would notch the crossmember.
