LS1 IN AN OPEL?
Has anyone heard of information of putting a V8 in an Opel? My calculations lead to the conculsion of a miniature look-a-like vette with 350 horse that weighs only 2200 pounds. I have looked at one for sale and the engine bay was small, too small. It is possible to use a frame and suspension off of a Triumph Spitfire which has the independent rear and could be beefed to handle the torque.
The advantages are the weight and avaiability of these cheap cars.
What's your take on it. Has anyone seen an engine conversion on one?

Re: LS1 IN AN OPEL?
I saw a picture of an Opel GT with a Buick GN motor and massive turbo. Nothing fit under the hood though. It was obviously a pure race car - tube frame, solid rear, full cage. The page mentioned the wheelbase being slightly extended from stock also. The bodywork was basically just hung on this custom race chassis.
It looked mean and was obviously fast.

Re: LS1 IN AN OPEL?
Speak of the devil, I opened my current issure of popular hat rodding and i believe on page 34 there was a opel gt with a 570 hp 502 bigblock meant for crusing. It had a fabbed front and rear suspension and that was it. It was a cruizin machine

the GN swaps are fairly common, the cars used Buick V6s from the factory. if you want to get nuts and find out what is really possible, on eBay there was an Opel GT with an Allison 1710 V12 mounted in a massively stretched middle. so yeah i think an LS1 might be possible lol

holy old thread.
my dad built a opel gt with a sbc in the early 80's. been trying to buy it back from the guy who bought and destroyed it for the last 7 years. sadly it just sits and continues to rot as it has for the past 20 years. guy drives me nuts
