Carb conversion progress.....56k warning....
hey guys....
as some of you know, i bought this car with the ls1/t-56 swap already done but found out it had a lot of electrical bugs to work out and finally got frustrated enough to decided to swap to a carb. there's a number of other things that needed to be done to the car and i'm taking this time to do so while the weather is still too cold for cruising. i started on it 2 weeks ago and there's a lot of little stuff i'm fixing/improving that's taken some time so that's part of the reason it's not done yet, the other part is i'm taking my time because i've never done this much at once before myself, or at all.
anyway, felt like sharing some pics so here goes in chronological order starting 2 weeks ago......
Sorry for the blur, all those wires skeered me! .........

looks rad man but coming from a guy that worked a performance parts supplier for quite some time take the bowls off that demon and check for filings before you fire it, they are known for it latley demon carbs have been junk... you would have been much happier with a proform 750 IMHO but it should still rock and roll none the less. Any more info on the inner bumper support?

I think i know what you are talking about, I have my box inside my car and it still reaches all the plug ins no problem, so i dont think you need the extension.

thanks for the compliments guys.
i'll let you know soon, when i get more time to wire in the fuel pump, mount the tank, and get some gas. so getting closer.
no, it was plenty long enough.
(tirefryin_s10) hadn't heard anything about that. i'll take a look into that. thanks for the heads up.
guy on corral had someone making them but pm'd me today saying it's not happening any longer. there's a big market for them because they were flooded with orders and the guy couldn't keep up or do his chassis work full time, so he stopped doing them. the factory piece i took off weighed 30 lbs and the moly tubular piece is 3 lbs! nice for only $65 delivered!
as far as gremlins....kept blowing a relay by the computer, and melted the fan relay. last problem i couldn't figure out. it was the first time i had fuel pressure but no spark. the other times the one relay for the computer was bad and i would have no spark and no fuel pressure. i think if i had put more time into it i would have figured it out, but i never had problems with any of my older cars with a carb, so i made the switch. heck, my 100+K mile '86 olds starts up fairly well yet during cold startup and just bump the key if it's already been driven and it'll fire right up. the carb hasn't been off the car as long as it's been in my family, which i believe was in 1992, it was my grandfathers until he passed a few years ago. i put over 15k miles on it in the last 18 months since i owned it, so i have no problem going with a carb other than hood clearance. not sure how tall i'll have to go yet.

Where did that front bumper support replacement come from? I recall someone making them, but I've had a brain-fart.
What kind of gremlins did you have with the EFI setup?

thanks guys. i got it running today! fired up first time, although it's very rich. i started by adjusting the float level which took several tries with little success on the front bowl and tore the little paper gasket. so now i'm working on more little stuff til i can get that.
got my built rearend back a couple days ago that was for a project that never finished, and will be going in this car. it's got a spool, 4.56's, 33 spline axles, welded tubes, etc. i've also got a full Steeda Hardcore rear suspension for it and i'll be using an airbag since my goal is 10's. if it were single digits, then i'd use an anti-rollbar.
i also ordered a new hood today, but not sure if it's gonna fit. it's a 3" bolt on from VFN Fiberglass (sponsor). i may have to use a 2" tall air filter to fit it, we'll see.
other than that, i've got a Textralis oz700 & pro 5.0 shifter & some new interior stuff going in the car and my big & little Draglites are waiting too. i know it doesn't sound like it, but this is really a street car first, drag second. still got full power options, back seat & kids seats , and no cage. i do hope it'll run 10's at a relaxed local track after i do a head/cam pkg., but mid 11's as before would be really nice!
more to come!
