700R4 no shift causes
Hello guys, I would like to compile a list of reasons for a no shift out of first for the 700r4 and accompanying symptoms. I have a unit that with a rebuilt valve body will not shift out of first gear. I also have near static 63 psi in every gear besides reverse. There i have 90 psi with very little rise with throttle. Thank you for your time.
1. Stuck TV Valve
2. Stuck Governor
3. Faulty 2-4 servo
4. Faulty 2-4 Band
5.
6.
7.
If anyone knows any more, please add. If anyone knows the accompanying symptoms to any of these to help narrow them down, Please add.

First findings, aluminum in the pan. Nothing sticking to the magnet so I assume not steel. So looks like pump damage. Nothing black or dusty so Again I assume no clutch material. Also this time the tv cable is pulled waaaayyy too tight. Almost full tv plunger stroke. Still only 60 psi at idle or 2000rpm so I guess the pump is fubar. All bolts present and tight.

Thank you for your contributions to the list!!! Ok so I pulled the trans and took it apart. Nothing really stood out as an ah ha moment for me. Just a bunch of little signs of wear. To me they are not much so tell me where I’m wrong and where to look next. Photos to follow

Pump looks like something definitely went through it. Nothing catches a fingernail or pick. Just a slight variation in texture. There is one tiny dent in both the stator side and the pump slide that suggest something really small punched both surfaces but nothing imbedded in either parts.

I am thinking of getting another pump. Cleaning out the case. Taking the VB apart and cleaning out each valve. Getting a new gasket kit and throwing it back together. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a plan to me, when cleaning bear in mind that metal will be in absolutly everything so you will need to disasemble drums and all .

Awesoe, ok so I'll buy another pump or see if I have one that is servicable and see If I can get reimbursement later. Questions about the torque converter though. I just thought about this. It is an FTI 3200 stall unit that I'm sure is very expensive. Do I dare try to clean it out or contact FTI and see what they say?

The gaskets look fine other than they may have gotten some humidity prior to install and swelled that is easy fix if ever happens again 10 to 15 seconds in microwave .
Now looking at pump photos looks like rotor was to thick or pocket not machined down enough. Which is not surprising as most don't check them and it's hard to get the various sizes , When I have to change the pump slide and rotor of late just end up machining the pump pocket to work with the slide and rotor, Yours i see was scrubbing both sides. How is screen in pump ?
On converter well that's tough one, Ideally since pump feeds all it need to be at least flushed preferably cut n cleaned . If t was a case of a broken pump and sudden stop i would say inspect the hub and drain converter and go with it, But in your case you were shaving aluminum off both sides of the pump so it will be in converter
