Default Using stock exhaust manifolds in my 69 camaro?

Has anyone used the ls1 stock exhaust manifolds in a 69 camaro swap. I am putting a 5.3 in my 69 and the manifold will not clear the steering box using the stock engine mounts with adapter plates. Will the camaro exhaust manifolds clear the steering box? What headers will work? I know the headers are pricey, but it maybe necessary. My experience with headers has always led to exhaust leaks. Any info would be appreciated!

here is a link to a thread that might give you some insight. It does not speak of using factory exhaust manifolds, but has good info on aftermarket headers.

just got my ls1 going in my 69 camaro. I used the stock manifolds off of a 2001 z/28 and they cleared the steering box but it is a tight fit. also if you use the stock manifolds you have to move the o2 sensor on teh driver side because it will hit the steering box.

I haven't got hood clearance with the al yet, but know that my AC comp won't clear so I am looking into relocating all of the pulleys. Let me know what you come up with. Sounds like you are ahead of me. I am refinishing the subframe right now and have only trial fitted the engine. I only found a few conflicts, oil pan, exhaust manifolds and AC.
