Question Will an LSx motor and tranny fit in a VW GTI?

Car looks like this...but different wheels and paint...

I saw it for sale locally and got to thinking how SICK it would be, and fun, if the shop could shoehorn an LS1 into it...

Anyone tried or know if it can work?

I tried search, but we know that doesn't help lol

Take a look through this forum and you will see that with a little creativity, time, MONEY, more MONEY, fabricating skills, a bit more MONEY, and patience, the Gen III motors will fit into anything. If you don't believe me, there is a Mini, a Vauxhall, a moris minor, several Miatas, and on, and on. Only limited by what you feel you can do, and what you can do SAFELY!

look no further than the guy here putting one in a civic. it can definitely be done with some engineering. hell you could probably get the 303hp FWD 5.3(ls4?) and put it in, since there is a n* FWD VW running around.

I saw in one of those VW magazines once how someone put a Northstar V8 into a Golf so I'm sure it can be done.

My old mentor in the business once told me you could install ANY drivetrain in ANY car if you had a torch, plenty of angle iron and a sawzall.

When I blew my 2001 VW New Beetle TDI engine they wanted as much for a new engine as the car was worth.

I had a extra 5.3L laying around! And I measured it will fit with some mods! I wonder???

please be sure it's a 1.8 or 2.0 you're hacking and not a VR6. the VR6's already make nice power, especially when a SC or BFT is added.

you could probably get away with modifying the drivetrain from a audi to fit in there to switch the drive wheels. remember, those frames can support AWD so RWD is not out of the question. my buddy had a 96 and he frequents vwvortex.com. he showed me a guy that mounted a horizontally opposed vr6 engine in teh hatch to compliment a front mounted vr6. the result was a dual engined rocket. search around on vwvortex and you will find what you need. especially with the audi drivetrain. its actually alot easier than you may think

For some ideas of what can be done to a fwd car, see the "Beast from Across the Pond" thread or go to http://media.ford.com/newsroom/featu...?release=16182 and look at their kit that allows one to pot a 4.6l cammer motor and T56 into a Focus

My vote is to put the 5.3L/FWD transaxle arrangement in the rear of the car.

Andrew i think Bob from EPP was looking at this idea for a ferrari they had in. the problem is you cant a get manual trany for the FWDs can you???

an alternative would be to mate the LS to a G50 from a 911 (keeping it german! ). you have to flip the box the other way but this has been done a million and 1 times!

now I'm not sure how much room the golf has but here is some picks of a SBC in the back of a kit car. got to GTR and then to gallery @ www.ultimasportscars.com

would be a very intresting project but its not the maddest i have seen/heard about. MTM has done a twin engine TT and a german tuner has done a twin engined golf using either 1.8T motors (good for 700bhp each) or VR6/R32 turbo engines! that was nuts! lol
