My LS1 FD build, no kit.
Well here is my first of many to come LS1 swaps. As of right now the crossmember is in my hopfully soon to be daily driver MB FD. But most likely in about a week once I get my new FD, the crossmember will go in that and I will try to get it up and running. I started this about 2 weeks ago and just finished up the crossmember the other day. I am just waiting to get a bellhousing so I can make the motor mounts, trans brace and torque arm. Here are some pics of the FD, removal, some of the parts and the crossmember. I should be startig my next crossmemeber in a week or so. So if there is any interest, I will take pics as I make this one and do a write up on it.
93 MB touring 64k miles
The 13b was very easy to remove. A very well desinged car to work on.
Took a quick pic with the mock up engine in and the rad. I will be using. This is about 5 minutes after we pulled the 13b.
Heres the crossmember, ended up making it out of 1.5"x3" and 1.5" DOM. I had it lying around and it seemed to work out ok. I retainted the stock control arm mounting points becuase it was simple. I welded 3/16" plates on the ends of them after I cut them off. Later on, once I get into my new shop I plan to make complete crossembers using none of the factory crossmember.
These are the mounting flanges off of the stock torque arm with 3/16" plates welded on the ends. I will be making the torque arm out of 1" box. Sense I also have tons lying around
Double roller chain kit that came with my LS1
Got these off of eBay for $150 shipped with Comp cans 918 springs to go with the FMS F5 cam I have. I will also be using LS7 lifters and stock
rockers.
Here the LS1 I picked up for $800. I will be using stock crank, rods and pistons. Power goal is 400rwhp, so stock internals are fine for now. I will only be running alternator, no A/C, power steering and a electric water pump. Just gotta get a ring, bearing and gasket set and it will be ready to go back together.
Picked this up from a member on eBay for $250 shipped. Its a buddy club 3" catback. I will be making the y-pipe to meet up with it.

Ya, I love the looks of the FD. Hopefully I will find a bellhousing and get the rest of the swap done. As for headers, I got a set of FLP longtubes. I am going to use them for mock up and possibly mod them to fit. If not I will use then for my 300zx LS1 swap. There is plently of room in there. If it comes down to it I will just make a set of headers for the FD. I plan on it anyway I just would like to get the car up and running asap.

Well sense I am at a stand still on the crossmember till I find a bell housing I decided to start something else. I ended up starting to shave the mirrors, rear wiper arm, sprayer, atennena, 4 bolt holes from the spoiler and the rear side markers. I got them all plated and welded up expect for the pass. mirror and side markers. Never shaved anything before but I think it will come out ok. I am a certified I-Car thin sheet metal welder so it wasnt to bad. But let me tell you even with the cert. I didnt like welding on the rear quarter panel. But it will we all worth it in the end, should look clean. Also here are a few pics of my Z32 LS1. Thought you guys might like it. I had to spray bomb it real quick yesterday sense it is going outside to the weather cause the new FD is coming in.

I just sprayed over the wiper arm hole real quick to keep it from rusting up tonight. I did the rest after I took the pic. I plan to paint the hole car before it hits the road. But I have tons of other things to worry about first. Now I just need to decide if I keep the montego blue or not.
