Default Variable valve timing

I have a LY6 6.0 liter with VVT from a 2007 Gmc Sierra that I am putting in my 96 Impala. My question is can I run the stock camshaft without using the VVT? I plan to eventually get a cam but I wanted to know if its possible to run the stock one for a while.

Hmm, my guess is no. I would think that the wiring harness and PCM would not allow for it. If you're not planning on camming it at the moment, why not just use the VVT?
