Default ECM mounting bracket

I'm swapping an '02 F-body LS1 into my 1968 Camaro using a modified factory wiring harness. I would like to mount the ECM under the dash behind the glove box door. Is there a universal ECM mount available that will work? I have not seen an OEM bracket. Would it work?

Look at a express van, they have a ECM rack you may be able to adapt

We just removed the screws holding the cover to the box, drilled the holes out, and bolted the cover back on using 2" cap heads. We used nylon lock nuts to hold the cover on. Then, we used another set of nylon lock nuts to hold the whoel assembly to the inner fenderwell. You could easily do something silimiar. We never did find a suitable area under the dash of a first gen. If you do, please post pics!

Here is an idea that I am trying. I mounted mine behind the glovebox and up high with this simple bracket and a mounting bracket that I tacked on to the firewall. It fits nice and up out of the way, but I have yet to install the Vintage Air unit which I hope will clear.

I got mine at the junkyard from a 2000(?) s-10 for 10.00. Others here have used them. Might try a search. Sorry I don't have any pics.

Chris, nice shoehorning job. I had a similar thought but I cannot trial fit as my ECM is in programming jail.

Are you using the stock harness? Is it long enough?

Keep 'em coming guys. Maybe we'll spur a vendor into making a nice universal mount.

Like IndyJC said,

The 00-02 S10 (maybe others) has a very nice flat PCM mount for the LSx style of PCM.

Yes it's a stock (98) harness. And it is long enough for now... I'll find out if I'll keep the setup once the VA unit is installed.

Hi Carl, you decided to go modern.

I mounted mine in a simple way.

First you need a 2" hole in the firewall to get the connectors through. I drilled mine very low in level with the exhaust from cylinder 8.

Then I used double sided tape and mounted the PCM to my soundinsulation. This made the PCM fit sandwiched between the firewall and the Vintage Air unit. And the cables comes from underneat the box and are easily reachable for service. I have a stock harness

Good Luck with your swap

any thoughts on installing the ecm in the glove box area, then running the wires down the fire wall and out the hole for the automatic shift cable, over the bell housing and to the engine? think it would work out ok. my car is finsihed and painted and i dont want to screw up my perfect shaved firewall.

DCX any more pics of your car? chrisp3 nice looking bracket. I'm wanting to install mine like jannes-z-28 and mount the pcm inside the car. Where do you find a 2in. grommet for the hole in the firewall?

I would not want to bury the ECU so deep that you could not get to it fairly easily. ECU do burn out. There are also times when you would want to unplug it, for instance if there was any welding to be done on the car, just as a precaution.

I took a S10 mount, cut it up a bit, made a metal brace that bolted to the rest of the mount, and bolted it to the top of my Trans Tunnel and built a console with gauges and idiot light around it.

Hey Jan. Yes, modern it is, with a few PSI thrown in for good measure.

Andrew, I agree. Serviceability is my middle name. I'm also still running the stock A/C heater and American Graffiti box so that mount would not work for me.

I'll need to find an S10 mount and see how that works. If I was not so concerned about heat I'd mount it in the engine bay. If I could work it into a decent airbox/filter housing to keep it cool......
