1968 Firebird LS1/BOP TH400 will it work?
I have a 1968 Firebird I am planning on putting an LS1 in actually just bought the motor for it. I replaced everything in the car basically except the longblock. I found a fully built rev man BOP th400 0 miles on it that was a spare for a 9 second car and i have a 3200 stall rated to about 600hp with it plus trans cooler, deep pan and all. I think this would jsut be a waste since all of it is brand new.
Oh its all behind a Pontiac 400 . The car was orgionally an OHC 6 cylinder. How would the mounting work? What would be involved? I have power steering now, but i actually have an 87 iroc i was gonna swap a bbc into and ended up buying a manual gear box for it. I read in the sticky that this could be used for a manual box?
I know you can use the th400/ls1 with just one hole not lining up, but what about the BOP? can i jsut use a chevy adapter plate with it or will it set the trans too far away from the flywheel? Also i looked on the painless website but couldnt find a specific ls1 harness without the frills, just basics for this application, ya know?
thanks

I see about 3 different types of harnesses on sumitracing not sure which one i should get. I couldnt get the speartech page to come up. Also does anyone know if the pontiac engine mounts are the same the chevy sb mounts? Or what i have to do to make them work.

You can just buy a set of SBC Camaro or Nova frame mounts. The subframe you have where used in the Camaro, Nova, Ventura, Firebird, and etc. There should be holes in the frame to bolt the SBC mounts and they may use the existing BOP holes, can't remember. I put a Pontiac 400 in my 68 Camaro one time and just bought a set of frame mounts off a 67 Firebird from a junkyard. There is no reason to buy adapters. Hope this helps.
