5.3 in an '86 Sierra
Hey whats up yall, I'm new here and have a few questions. I have a 1986 GMC Sierra that I want to put a newer 5.3L fuel injected motor in. Can anyone tell me everything I need to do and change to make it work? Do I have to or should I change the tranny? I will appreciate any info. I can get. Thanks

Figure out what motor mounts/adapters you need. I used the carshopinc ones at first, but it set my motor 1" too far forward(might have been perfect if I used a 4L60E or 700R trans). Now I have the S&P 1" mounts and they set everything perfect(I'm using a TH350). I agree with lsxyj, get that 4L60e with the 5.3, it's way less hassle + you get overdrive. I used my stock radiator with mine, but I used the e-fans from my 2000 Sierra. Good luck with your project.

Call carshopinc or send them a PM or email....they have both types now(as he said), so they can tell you which you might need. On my truck, I needed the 1"back mounts with my TH350.

Did you choose to set the engine back one inch futher so you could bolt the engine to the transmission with the trans remaining in the stock location or would the engine combo not work in the standard location? Got any pictures?

Yep, I wanted to keep the stock trans location and stock driveshaft. I think my truck is odd because a bunch of people aren't having the same frame/mount/exhaust problems I had. I don't think I have any good pictures that would show the placement of the motor or anything. Sorry.
