That's a loaded question, it really depends on the height of the tranny output shaft and the height of the rearend pinion. If your tranny yoke is higher than the rearend 3 down may be fine but if the are level with each other 3 down is pretty steep. Try reading about pinion angel adjustment.

Yes.. it is a loaded question.

The engine can be at an extreme angle and run ok. Engine Angle are more critical when Carbs were used due to the floats and fuel bowls. But with Fuel Injection, it is not the case any more.

What is more critical and getting back to your Loaded Question.. Is that the Drive line angle needs to be at a proper angle so as to not cause vribration in the driveline (U-Joints and Driveshaft). A 3 degrees in what is always referred to as the correct and optimum angle to use. Then again.. you have seen many 4x4 rigs with extreme drive line angle and they do ok if set up correctly.

Do some research on "drive line angle". Also.. drive line angle is nothing new and as far as what is correct for a LSx., the answer is that it is the same for any brand of engine or manufacture.

Do you have an Android phone?
Tremec has a fantastic Driveline Angle Finder app that uses your phone. It does the measurements, calculations, everything for you.

engine angle dont matter, i've set some at step angle with succes. driveshaft angle is what you must take care. the angle difference between tranny and diff will change depending of your suspension type, you want both angle to be as equal as possible when working. rubber bushing will need more down angle than heim joints...
