Default C6Z06 intake/maf on a C5

Just thought I'd share some info of my little experiment. One of the first mods I did to my car years ago was a cai from AFE for C5's. It was affordable and flowed very well. Well, the years have gone by and now that Im flirting with 500rwhp Im maxing out the 85mm maf and the AFE cai. After spending some $ on upgading to shaft mount rockers I didnt have a lot of $ left for a new or bigger cai especially since theyre $300-500+. So a friend suggested looking at a stock C6Z06 intake. Theyre pretty big and designed to feed a 427. I wasnt sure at first but when I saw one I saw how big they are especially the bridge that goes over the rad support, its very wide. Also it already comes setup to use the LS7 maf, that I was already preparing to use. So I mocked it up to the car and it looks like its gonna work. I got a K&N filter for it and modified the intake to open up more of the filter to fresh air (it will sit over an opening in the rad shroud that will bring fresh air straight into it). Just waiting on a silicone coupler that I ordered custom to fit it to my NW 102mm tb. The smallest part of the intake is the opening to the tb and that area is still equal to a 4in round opening so it looks like it should flow well. Once the coupler shows up, wed I hope, I'll be able to finish the install and tune the LS7 maf.

Ive spent $85 on the filter and $15 on the coupler so far. I got the LS7 maf for $50 online. Beats the $500 Halltech which seems to be the only C5 intake that offers a LS7 maf conversion.

As you can see compared to the 102mm FAST the AFE cai aint so big anymore. I'll post up more pics once the C6Z intake is fully installed on the car.

Installed intake and test fitted the 4in x 7in long silicone coupler. The coupler is a bit long so Im gonna trim it but so far everything looks good. It pulled like a beast at wot. Just gotta have my tuner finish tuning for a bit of reversoin we're seeing at low rpms.

Im reffering to the cold air intake in this thread. The intake manifold is a FAST LSXr 102mm intake which is also made made for LS1/2 cathedral port heads.

Good thinking. This is the first time I've seen or heard someone adding a LS7 air intake and maf on a C5.
How does it perform compaired to your old AFE cai and 85mm maf? Thanks for sharing.

Well it took some tuning but the car seems to really like the setup. Pulls harder up top vs the 85mm maf. Next move is going to the track to see if there is any gains. Only thing is the LS7 maf seems to be a bit senistive to air reversion from big cams so idle and low rpm cruising can be a pain to tune but once you figure it out this combo really hauls ***. So far its been definately worth it.
