Default Problem, please help: Fuel pump and filter location, and how to replace? 2000 C5

After car running like crap and dying out quickly, I check the fuel pressure at the rail. Reads 11 to 14 psi. Car fired up and pressure quickly drops to 9-10 psi and dies out. I'm guessing a bad fuel pump and/or filter. My question is, where do I find the fuel pump and filter? And how to replace them? Also, please post any other areas where a problem may be. Thank you.

Fuel filter includes the fuel pressure regulator. It is one piece. You have to jack up the car and find the trans in the back. The filter is located in the trans tunnel in that area on the driver's side. I would replace this first, then the pump if it doesn't fix it.

The fuel pump is located in the driver's side fuel tank. Jack up the car and remove the driver side rear wheel. Remove the plastic wheel well liner, There is a metal shield covering the pump assembly. Remove that. 6 bolts or so and the entire assembly comes out. You dont have to drop the tank, but you should find a way to drain it. If it's a full tank, then there will be gas everywhere when you remove the pump.

I would look into a Racetronix pump assy. Nice piece and comes with a fuel tank drain kit that helps.

Steve01SS, thank you for the very helpful info. Its really appreciated. I was indeed going to replace the filter/pressure regulator first, then the pump if needed.

Get the filter from GM. Get a pump from Autozone.

No way I'd put a stock replacement autozone pump in my C5. I did in my truck, but had to at that point and was only $100.

The LPE pump and WIX filter isn't a bad combo. The racetronix pump and LPE are the same pump.

I've heard racetronix stuff is garbage... But that was about their injectors.

$410 from autozone? Good god, I agree, that's a rip off.

Went to the Lingenfelter website and they advertise a "Lingenfelter Walbro C5 intake fuel pump module" designed as a direct replacement. Got a WIX filter/regulator at $45 which I've heard some speed shops use and are good units.

You think Autozone was a rip-off, at the local GM dealership list price was around $730-750 or some **** for the stock pump assembly. I knew it was going to be a stupid price but goodness.

They are more expensive becaues you are buying the whole assembly. Simply R&R and you are done. Ok for the people with money and don't care about performance I guess, lol. The LPE or Racetronix kit will be a nice upgrade though.
