Default shootin for a Z06

whats up guys. as of June I was recently in a bad car accident, that was not my fault had a dumb 16 year old blow a stop sign goin bout 60+ in a 25 and just smashed into my 99 Camaro ls1. total loss i put everything into her. I have been starting to look for a new ride/project. I was thinkin between the lines of a SS or a vette. Obviously people would chose the vette. I decided, what the hell, go all out and get a Z06 (if its affordable) I have been finding some real good prices on them. 27,000 through 31,000 with pretty low miles (best one i found was with 30k on it) Its not that I have a lot of questions on them, but how will it ride, will I totally forget about the camaro? even though I don't want to, hehe I guess i would just like some input on the Z06 owners and what they have experienced. Is there such thing as colum lock on the Z06's? i know the C5 has a big problem with that. Like I said, im really gonna try to pick one up. I remember a couple years back at the car shows i would always say "man, a Z06 is gonna be my next car!" maybe this is the chance?

I just got my Z bout 3 months ago and the column locked on me. You can have it repaired by the dealer or just purchase a Steering Column Lock Bypass, which is what I did. Easy install and No more problems.

If possible ... get the Z06!

Won't be a good winter car.

I picked up a red 02 with 30,000 miles on it.

I'm in the same boat, looking for a 2002 for 26-27. Seem to be some "ok" deals out there, but nothing just saying "buy me now"

02 for 26-27k = 50-75k miles.

I have seen local 01's with 45-55k miles for 27k.

cheapest 02 i have seen was with 40k miles, for 29k.

i got mine for 30.

I know its a good deal... the S/O just wanted me to stay as far away from 30 as possible. I've got a buddy at a particular Porsche dealer in town, and he says he can get me an 02 z06 with less than 50K miles, for "low to mid 20's" I'm going to wait

I doubt low to mid 20's unless it was wrecked, where are you located? Have you been following the pricing on these cars at all?

I'd spend the 29k and go for it. It's like another $40 a month for another 2k.

Yea, not wrecked, he said he'd pick one up at the auction for me, and i'd pay that price.

As far as pricing... yea, i've been watching them religously through ebay, autotrader, cars.com, ls1tech.com, corvetteforums.com and anywhere else you can imagine.

I know of one with 66K miles on an 02 with new tires on chrome wheels i can get for $27,500, but if i'm going to do that, i might as well get the silver one with 18K miles for 1500 more. ya know!?

I can't vouch for a Z but I had a camaro and I jumped up to a 01 coupe and trust me you will wonder how you drove the camaro for so long. Completely different animal.

I know i'm going to keep this car for pretty much ever, cause the girlfriend said "no new cars till all debt is paid off" so i really dont know if i should get one based on mileage or not. I drive about 30K a year, so mileage isn't a factor to me, and thats why i'm considering a 67K mile z06. HOWEVER... they need to come down on their price. I'm not paying 27,500 for it.
